Barbato Nets Seven as Western New England Runs by Smith

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Sophomore attacker Jeanmarie Barbato (Huntington Station, NY) scored seven times on eight shots to lead the Western New England College women's lacrosse team with a 17-6 win over Smith College on Thursday (April 2) at Golden Bear Stadium.

Senior tri-captain Michelle Thompson (Wilbraham, MA) netted two of her three scores in the first half and also had two assists as the Golden Bears even their record at 4-4.

WNEC led 7-3 at halftime and then scored three goals in the opening 61 seconds in the second half to break the game open.

Senior tri-captain Lindsey Fenton (Pelham, MA) scored a pair of goals with an assist while senior Cougar Moynihan (South Glastonbury, CT) had a goal and two assists.

Ashley Richard (South Hadley, MA), sophomore Marisa Hebert (Saco, ME), and freshmen Liz McRoberts (Westford, MA) and Katie Toomy (Northborough, MA) all chipped in with a goal.

Junior attacker Carolyn Whiting (South Orange, NJ) had two goals and freshman midfielder Sarah Knowles (North Kingston, RI) had a goal and assist for the Pioneers.

Sophomore goalie Marissa Bonitatibus (Yorktown Heights, NY) collected six saves and Erin Doherty had three for the Golden Bears.

Junior goalie Chelsea Henderson (White Plains, NY) finished with 19 saves and Elizabeth Niehoff (Bronxville, NY) had four for Smith (1-5).
