Alvernia Back on Track with Win over Cedar Crest

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 2, 2009) - Alvernia University freshman Sarah George (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Bayard Rustin) and sophomore Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) went back and forth as team leader in goals Wednesday afternoon combining for 11 goals in the Crusaders' (7-2) 19-4 win over Cedar Crest College (3-6) at Sovereign Bank Sports Park.

George scored the second goal of the game, her 29th of the season, just over four minutes into play and Alvernia had an early 2-0 lead. Sippel put Alvernia up 4-1with her 30th of the season midway through the first half, but George scored between the first and second of the season for freshman Tonya Rutt (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) to reach 30 on the year.

Chrissy Paris (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) followed Rutt's second and then came Sippel with #31. After Cedare Crest scored its second goal fo the half with 2:32 on the clock, George tallied #31, and both players scored a goal in the final two minutes of the half as Alvernia enjoyed a 13-2 lead and looked well on its way to get back in the win column after a pair of defeats.

Sippel scored the first goal of the second half, but right behind that came George. Both players added another goal each in the second half to finish even up at 34 goals apiece this season. Rutt finished with three goals and Sam Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) and Tara Walls (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) scored two each.

Katie Bostwick (Linwood, Pa./Chichester) made five stops in the first half and earned the win. Jenn Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) played the second half and stopped three. Cedar Crest goalie Devin Ursini stopped 11 in the loss.

Alvernia returns to conference play in an important match up at Wilkes on Saturday.
