FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University posted a 21-6 women's lacrosse win over visiting Howard University on Thursday night at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. A trio of Longwood players scored three goals each in the win. The Lancers improve to 7-4, while the Bison fall to 0-9. Longwood returns to action on Saturday, April 4, when it hosts the University of Detroit at 11 a.m. at the Athletics Complex in Farmville.

The Lancers scored the first nine goals of the game. Sophomore Karli Brentlinger/Gambrills, Md. (South River), senior Dee Warehime/Westminster, Md. (Westminster), and sophomore Cara O'Brien/Arlington (Bishop O'Connell) each scored twice during the run. Freshman Karen Nirschl/Herndon (Bishop O'Connell) added a pair of goals in the last 4:03 as Longwood held a 12-2 lead at halftime. The Lancers added nine goals after halftime including the last four of the game.

Twelve players scored a goal for Longwood, with senior Liz Sellmayer/Baltimore, Md. (Mount de Sales Academy) scoring two goals and assisting on three others for a season-high five points. Warehime and O'Brien each scored three goals with one assist for four points. Nirschl added three goals and sophomore Kesley Dean/Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne's) scored twice and had one assist. Senior Lauren Barnaba/Bel Air, Md. (The John Carroll School) scored her first goal of the season and had one assist. Junior Page Farmer/Richmond (St. Catherine's) and sophomore Amanda Bereznay/Gwynn Oak, Md. (Seton Keough) also had one goal and one assist. Freshman Emily Gartrell/Jarrettsville, Md. (North Harford), junior Carlie Nethken/Hanover, Md. (Long Reach) and senior Shawn Darrell/Chestertown, Md. (Queen Anne's) each added one goal.

Longwood scored 21 goals on 39 shots, both season highs. The Lancers picked up 22 ground balls and had 17 draw controls.

"Our girls came out focused and intense," said Longwood head coach Janet Grubbs. "The freshmen did a good job of coming in and playing with intensity. I liked the discipline I saw out there."

Dean, Warehime and O'Brien have scored a point in every game this season. Warehime has scored a point in 23 straight games, the 16th-longest streak in Division I.

Holley Sakita scored three goals and and had six draw controls for Howard. Lauren Rivers added two goals and Ashley Lawrence scored once.
