Griffin's Goal Helps Bentley Edge Molloy

Rockville Centre, N.Y. – Junior Jaclyn Griffin (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) scored what would be the game-winning goal with 5:10 remaining to help Bentley University to an 11-10 win over Molly on Thursday night in non-conference women's lacrosse action. Griffin and senior Alyssa Ritchie (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) each had a hat trick and a game-high four points.

With the score tied at nine, junior Erica de Silva (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) scored the go-ahead goal on a free-position shot with 7:39 left in the game.

Griffin then scored her third of the game on a free-position shot to give the Falcons an 11-9 cushion. The Falcons then got two shots on net in an attempt to add to their lead, but both were saved by Molloy's Alicia Frisch.

The Lions inched closer on a free-position goal by Rebecca LaFlare with 1:28 left, but they couldn't come up with the tying goal. Molloy won the ensuing draw control, but didn't get any shots off before time expired, giving Bentley its fourth win of the season.

The team's traded the first eight goals of the game back-and-forth, until Molloy scored three unanswered to take a 7-4 lead with 2:39 left in the first half. De Silva broke the run with her first goal of the game with 1:46 remaining.

Kristie Sosnowksi scored the first goal of the second half to give the hosts an 8-5 lead, but Bentley surged ahead with four consecutive man-up goals in the span of just under five minutes. Ritchie and Griffin scored the first two on free-position shots, then freshmen Lisa Petitto (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield) and Olivia Bouchard (Warwick, R.I./Loomis-Chaffee) scored to give the Falcons a 9-8 lead at the 18:27 mark.

Junior Christina Guglielmo (Fair Haven, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) made 15 saves to earn the win.

Bentley concludes its road trip with a game at No. 2 C.W. Post on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
