The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team earned an 18-12 win over visiting Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Lacrosse League foe Marist College on Friday afternoon. The win improves the Stags record to 9-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference action, while the Red Foxes fall to 7-3 on the year and 2-2 in MAAC play.

Over the first 12 seasons of Fairfield women's lacrosse the Stags have had four players score 100 career goals. On Friday, three different players, Rebecca White (Spring Lake, N.J.), Abbey Goodwin (Columbus, Ohio) and Kristen Coleman (Potomac, Md.), recorded the 100th goal of their Fairfield careers.

Fairfield led 5-3 at the intermission and struck first in the second-half as White tallied her second of the day and 100th of her career, on a free position goal. Marist would score the next two goals, with Carolyn Sumcizk (Syosset, N.Y.) scoring at 27:01 and Shannon Haas (Farmingdale, N.Y.) scoring 57 seconds later to bring the Red Foxes within a goal, 6-5.

Coleman's 100th career goal came next, with 25:10 left in the game, and jumpstarted a 7-0 Stags run as they took control of the game. She would score twice more during the run, which ended with a Katie MacKay (Salem, Conn.) goal, the eventual game-winner, at the 17:54 mark.

Lauren Chatnik (Schenectady, N.Y.) earned the win in net for the Stags, making three saves. Her Marist counterpart, Kelsey Thoms (Newark, N.Y.) made eight saves, four in each half, in playing the entire game.

Goodwin reached the milestone on a free position goal with 7:25 to play in the game. She finished the afternoon with two points and a caused turnover.

White and Coleman both tallied five goals to lead the Stags offense, with White also adding an assist. Kim Fuchs (Garden City, N.Y.) and Kate Reardon (Needham, Mass.) both touched net twice in the game, with Fuchs adding an assist.

Coleman led the way with four draw controls, equaled in that number by Kylee Martin (Wyckoff, N.J.). White had a team-high five ground balls, while Kelly Barnes (Jenkintown, Pa.) had five caused turnovers. Fairfield led in ground balls, 22-17, draw controls, 20-12, and caused turnovers 18-11. Marist committed more turnovers, 21-17 in the game.

Stephanie Garland (Long Valley, N.J.) was the Red Foxes leading goal scorer, netting five goals on the afternoon.

Fairfield is back in action on Sunday, travelling to Loudonville, N.Y., for a 1:00 p.m. contest versus MAAC foe Siena College.

FAIRFIELD, CONN. – The Marist women's lacrosse team suffered an 18-12 defeat to the Fairfield Stags on the road on Friday afternoon. Marist senior Stephanie Garland (Long Valley, N.J.) led the Red Foxes with five goals. With the loss, Marist fell to 7-3 overall and 2-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).

The Stags built a 13-5 lead with 17:54 to play in the first half, as they used a 7-0 run over approximately eight minutes. Garland then cut the lead to 13-7, as she scored the next two goals. She finished the game with four draw controls and a caused turnover.

Marist got as close as four goals, when the score was 16-12 with 1:36 to play in the second half. Senior Kate Noftsker (Needham, Mass.) scored a goal off a Carolyn Sumcizk (Syosset, N.Y.).

Noftsker totaled a goal, an assist, two ground balls and a caused turnover, while Sumcizk had a goal, two assists and two caused turnovers.

Fairfield got key contributions from Rebecca White and Kristen Coleman who each scored five goals in the game.

The Red Foxes will return to action on Tuesday, April 7 in a non-conference tilt with Colgate. The match will reunite two teams who played for one spot in the NCAA Tournament last season. The Raiders prevailed 19-18 on their home field. Tuesday's opening draw is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
