PHILADELPHIA - Penn and Dartmouth had played one-goal games each of the last four years. On Friday, that was not the case, but the game was nevertheless up for grabs until late before the Quakers walked out of Franklin Field with a 9-6 win.

The teams were tied, 3-3, after a frenetic first quarter, but Penn (2-6, 1-3 Ivy) outscored the Big Green 2-1 in every quarter after that to gain the victory and end a six-game losing streak. Penn outshot Dartmouth 42-29.

The first quarter was a back-and-forth affair, as the teams traded goals three times. Drew Collins got things rolling for Penn, before Casey Hintgen scored an unassisted goal for Dartmouth (2-7, 0-2). Alex Weber notched his seventh with 6:19 to play, but that was answered by the Big Green's Kip Dooley. Late in the quarter, Rob McMullen netted a man-up goal for Penn, but that was matched by a man-down goal from Dartmouth's Josh Etzion.

The second quarter did not have nearly the fireworks of the first, but the Quakers gained a lead they would not relinquish when John Conneely finished a Corey Winkoff feed in a man-up situation. That came after Heiderman and Dartmouth's Ari Sussman traded goals only 17 seconds apart midway through the stanza.

Andrzejewski found the goal for the first time in the game with 11:46 left in the third, and then more than 10 minutes went by before Dartmouth's Tim Daniels finished a Dooley feed to end a lengthy scoring drought by both teams. However, Penn got a big goal with just 11 seconds left before the end of the quarter when Al Kohart finished a Casey O'Rourke feed.

In the fourth, neither team scored until there was just 2:56 left as Andrzejewski finished off a Winkoff feed. Penn got the ball back on the faceoff and milked the clock, and Heiderman scored easily when Dartmouth essentially let him go to goal untouched. That strategy paid off, as the Big Green won the ensuing faceoff and immediately scored, but Penn won the next faceoff and ran out the clock.

Joe Hegener had seven saves for Penn, while his freshman counterpart at the other end -- Dartmouth's Fergus Campbell -- made 12 stops.

Penn returns to action Tuesday, hosting No. 5 Princeton at Franklin Field. Start time is slated for 7:00 p.m.

PHILADELPHIA - The Big Green and Quakers alternated goals throughout the first half, but Penn took a two-goal lead to start the third quarter and never looked back as the Dartmouth men's lacrosse team fell, 9-6, in Ivy League action on Friday afternoon.

Dartmouth (2-7, 0-2 Ivy) had six different goal scorers, including freshman Kip Dooley (Minneapolis, Minn.) who led the team with a goal and an assist for two points. Junior Casey Hingtgen (Carlsbad, Calif.) netted a goal in his first appearance of the season. Freshman Fergus Campbell (New Canaan, Conn.) gave the Big Green his best effort with 13 saves, which gives him double-digit saves in three-consecutive starts.

Penn (2-6, 1-3 Ivy) got two goals from Garvey Heiderman and Craig Andrzejewski, while Corey Winkoff added a pair of assists. Goaltender Joe Hegener made seven saves in front of the cage to earn the win.

The two teams traded goals during the entire first quarter. Penn took a 1-0 lead with 12:24 left in the quarter on a goal by Drew Collins and Dartmouth answered with Hingtgen's first of the season coming less than four minutes later. The Quakers got their second lead with 6:19 left on Alex Weber's seventh of the year and Dooley answered right back for the Big Green with his 10th of the season, which puts him third on the team and made it 2-2.
