Southern New Hampshire Runs by Southern Connecticut
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Libby Parent (Hinesburg, VT) led 10 different Southern New Hampshire University goal scorers with five goals and an assist to lead the Penmen to a 21-11 Northeast-10 women's lacrosse victory over Southern Connecticut State University at Jess Dow Field Saturday. The Penmen improved to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the NE-10, while the Owls are 0-8 and 0-4 in the league.
Carole Lee (Derry, NH) totaled three goals and an assist for SNHU, which also got three goals from Alyssa Johnson (Nashua, NH). Maura Murphy (Candia, NH) notched two goals and four assists, while Sherry Darrell (Bow, NH) and Emily Mongeau (Westborough, MA) each tallied two goals and an assist. Lucretia Joy (Portland, ME), Jade Antonangeli (Bourne, MA), Laura Rotolo (Waltham, MA) and Kelly Curran (Arlington, MA) each had single goals for Southern New Hampshire.
Teresa Monfredo led Southern Connecticut with five goals while Elaina Heiple added three goals.
SNHU never trailed and got on the board just 1:04 into the game when Parent scored on a feed from Murphy. The Owls would tie the game 1:07 later and stayed within striking distance much of the first half, with a Heiple goal with 14:53 left in the first half making it a 9-7 game. The Penmen would score the final three goals of the first half and a Darrell score 4:48 before intermission made it 12-7 at the break.
Southern New Hampshire would take control of the game with a string of five unanswered goals midway through the second half. Lee scored on an assist from Parent with 8:36 remaining to give the guests an 18-9 lead, and the Penmen would maintain at least an eight-goal advantage the rest of the way.
Hannah Moriarty (Chelmsford, MA) went the distance in goal for SNHU and made five saves, while SCSU goalie Lisa Corso made nine saves as the Penmen outshot the Owls 38-24.
Southern New Hampshire returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Franklin Pierce University for a 6:00 contest.
NOTES: Parent has now scored at least one goal in 41 straight games dating back to the beginning of the 2007 season...SNHU's 21 goals matches a season high...Saturday's game was the first Penmen road game of the season after playing its first eight at home.
