Stony Brook, N.Y. (Apr. 4, 2009) – Sarah Dalton (seven) and McKinley Curro combined for 10 of Boston University's 17 goals as the #12 Terriers held off a late rally to defeat the Stony Brook University women's lacrosse team, 17-13 at LaValle Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Senior Kaitlin Leggio (Bay Shore, N.Y.) had four goals and an assist to lead the Seawolves (3-10, 0-3 America East). Leggio also added a game-high seven draw controls. Stony Brook played the 12th ranked team in the country even to start and took its only lead of the game, 3-2 after senior Kim Wodiska (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) scored her 12th goal of the season on a free-position attempt. But Boston University started to pull away, scoring six unanswered goals. Tracy Landy's 26th of the season capped the scoring, giving the Terriers an 8-3 lead with 18:46 to play. The Terriers led by as many as five goals, three times in the first half however Leggio's 30th of the season made it an 11-7 game entering the half.

After Boston University scored two straight, Stony Brook answered with goals from senior Jenna Celano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) and sophomore Melissa Cook (Bay Shore, N.Y.). The Terriers and Seawolves traded three goals apiece until freshman Abby Ford (Baltimore, Md.) scored off an assist from senior Jenna Spenard (Cicero, N.Y.) to get Stony Brook within, 16-13 with 1:11 to play. But Dalton, who entered this week as one of the nation's top goal scorers, scored with 18 seconds left to stop the Seawolves' late rally.

Sophomores Victoria Cable (Oakton, Va.) and Courtney Bertolone (Farmingville, N.Y.) each scored a pair of goals for Stony Brook. Junior Mickey Cahill (Bay Shore, N.Y.) went the distance in goal, finishing with eight saves. Leggio, who already broke the school record for points, draw controls and ground balls earlier this season, needs just six more goals to break Amy Taylor's '07 record of 148.

The Seawolves are back at LaValle Stadium on Saturday, April 11 when they take on New York State rival Binghamton at 1:00 pm.
