Rangers Reel off Five-Goal Run to Put Goucher Away
MADISON, N.J. – Goucher appeared to be on the comeback trail when Marlo Tersigni (Boston, Mass./Lawrence Academy) scored twice in the opening 2:56 of the second half to reduce Drew's lead to 8-5.
But the Rangers quickly regrouped, responded with a run of five unanswered goals to open up a commanding eight-goal advantage and went on the defeat head coach Katie Trainor's Gophers, 17-8, today in the first Landmark Conference game of the season for both teams.
Goals by Mary Lambert (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill), Sandy Okun (Stevenson, Md./McDonogh School) and Colleen Cole ( Holliston, Mass./Northfield Mt. Hebron School) were all the offense the Gophers (4-5, 0-1 Landmark) could muster in the first half as they were outshot 13-8.
The two goals by Tersigni at the beginning of the second half were the senior midifleder's team-leading 25th and 26th of the season.
Rebecca Schild and Stacie Brown both supplied the Rangers (4-6, 1-0 Landmark) with four goals. Schild squeezed three of her goals into the 5-0 run that followed Tersigni's two goals and boosted Drew's lead to 13-5 midway through the second half.
