Dickinson Drops Centennial Match to No. 11 Haverford

(Haverford, Pa.)- The Dickinson College men's lacrosse team suffered a 10-3 loss at Haverford College on Saturday. The 'Fords, ranked 11th in the USILA/Coaches' poll, improve to 8-2 overall and 4-0 in the Centennial Conference.

Haverford strung together a pair of five-goal runs, doing most of the scoring in the second half.

The Red Devils struck first late in the first quarter as Casey Finkelstein (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh) put the Devils on the board with 3:11 on the clock.

Haverford tallied a pair of goals in the second quarter, the latter with just one second to play in the half, to take just a 2-1 lead into the break.

Haverford opened the third with a 3-0 run to pull in front 5-1. First-year Ward Gruppo (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Prep) stalled the run with a goal at the 11:31 mark.

The 'Fords tacked on a pair to end the quarter, taking a 7-2 advantage into the final stanza. They tallied three more before Sam Greenburg (Owings Mills, Md./McDonogh) closed out the scoring with a goal at the 1:37 mark.

Senior goaltender Russell Matthews (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) made 12 saves and controlled a game-high six ground balls for the Devils.

Max Hjelm led the 'Fords with three goals and one assist while Travis Gregory tallied three goals as well. Joe Bano stopped 11 shots in goal.

The Red Devils (5-5, 1-3) host Muhlenberg College on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
