Tolson Leads No. 18 Lynchburg by Randolpoh-Macon

ASHLAND, VA – Lynchburg's Tyler Tolson had a game-high six goals as he led the No. 18 Hornets to an 18-9 ODAC win over Randolph-Macon in men's lacrosse action on Saturday afternoon.

LC (8-3/2-0 ODAC) got on the board first when Tolson struck for his first goal at the 12:36 mark of the opening quarter. After R-MC's (4-5/0-3 ODAC) Tyler Midwinter tied the game at 1-1 with 9:45 to go in the first frame, the Hornets reeled off seven of the last eight goals to claim an 8-2 advantage after the first 15 minutes.

Lynchburg pushed its lead to 13-2, scoring five goals in the first 8:17 of the second stanza. R-MC fought back, tallying four of the final five goals of the half, including a pair from Midwinter to head to the intermission down 14-6.

The game remained that way until the 13:56 mark of the third quarter when Tolson scored, then tallied another strike 28 seconds later to put LC on top 16-6.

Kevin Patton and Rich Wilkins scored back-to-back goals for R-MC to cut the Hornets lead in half at 16-8 with 11:05 left in the third, but that would be as close as the Jackets would get as Tolson scored two more times in the final quarter to seal the win for Lynchburg.

Midwinter led R-MC with three goals on the day, while Egan had two goals and an assist for three points. Adam Liberto and Jason Crawford split time in the cage, with Crawford making 10 stops in the second half.

Dylan Hoff scored four goals and added two assists for six points for LC, while Michael Mundorf had two goals and three helpers in the win. Franc Cook saw just under 57 minutes of action in net for LC, making nine stops.

Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Wednesday when it hosts Christopher Newport at 4:00 p.m. Lynchburg returns to the field on April 11th at home versus No. 2 Roanoke at 8:00 p.m.

ASHLAND, VA – Hornet senior attack Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) scored six times and broke the Lynchburg College career goal-scoring record as LC defeated Randolph-Macon College 18-9 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action. Tolson, now with 167 career tallies, broke Mike Marchetti's '94 career record of 162 - which stood for 15 seasons.

Tolson quickly tied the record with a goal at 12:36 of the first quarter from Michael Mundorf (Cambridge, MD/Mt. Saint Joseph). R-MC answered back with a tally, but LC scored the next five goals, four from freshman Dylan Hoff (Chester Springs, PA/Downingtown East) to begin to pull away. The Yellow Jackets scored at 2:22 of the first to pull back within 6-2, but seven-straight LC scores put the outcome out of reach.

Tolson added an assist, and Hoff ended with four goals and two assists. Mundorf posted two goals and three assists, and Aaron Khouri (Memphis, TN/MUS) and Kevin Donahue (Ipswich, MA/Tabor Academy) each had a goal and an assist.

Franc Cook (Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen) made nine saves in just under 57 minutes in goal for LC, while Brennan Green (Lake Oswego, OR/Lake Oswego) won 14 of his 23 face-off attempts. The Hornets outshot the Yellow Jackets 39-26.

Tyler Midwinter scored three times for Randolph-Macon (4-5/0-3 ODAC) and Patrick Egan had two goals and one assist.

The Hornets (8-3/2-0) face second-ranked Roanoke College Saturday at 8:00 p.m. on Shellenberger Field. The Hornet seniors will be honored prior to the opening face-off on Senior Night.
