No. 2 C.W. Post Blasts Bentley to Earn 7th Straight Win
BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 9, 2009) - Senior midfielder Samantha Lyons (Farmingdale, N.Y.) tallied seven points (4g, 3a) to lead the No. 3 C.W. Post Pioneers past Bentley University, 23-5. Freshman midfielder Ashley Olen (East Islip, N.Y.) added a five-goal performance to propel the Pioneers past the Falcons, 23-5. The Pioneers improve to an overall record 7-1, while Bentley falls to 3-6 for the season.
C.W. Post found the back of the net early, as junior midfielder Brianne Jackolski (Shirley, N.Y.) scored the first of her four goals unassisted less than three minutes into the game. Bentley quickly answered back as Jaclyn Griffin found teammate Alyssa Ritchie to even up the score. Senior midfielder Katie Hogan (Farmingdale, N.Y.) capitalized on a free position shot to pull the Pioneers ahead 2-1.
C.W. Post continued with four unanswered goals, including a goal from freshman Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) to make the score 6-1. Ritchie scored another goal for Bentley before C.W. Post began a scoring frenzy, as Lyons, Olen, and Jaclyn Napoli (West Islip, N.Y.) tallied a collective nine goals to bring the Pioneers ahead 15-2 at halftime.
The Pioneers continued to keep the Falcons at bay for the second half of play, outscoring their opponent 8-3. Napoli kicked off the run, scoring one of her two goals for the half, as she finished the game with three goals and two assists. Olen closed out the game for the Pioneers with two minutes left in play off a feed from teammate Kim Williams (Long Valley, N.J.). Staci Passafiume (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) added three assists while Hogan finished with four goals and one assist for the afternoon.
Sophomore goalkeeper Sam Powers (Holbrook, N.Y.) played just under 57 minutes in net for C.W. Post, making six saves and allowing five goals. Sophomore Marcela Hernandez (Freeport, N.Y.) spent three minutes in goal for the Pioneers and made one save. Christina Guglielmo took the loss for the Falcons, making 13 saves.
C.W. Post outshot Bentley 43-16 and held a 19-10 margin in draw controls. The Pioneers completed 16 of 18 clear attempts successfully and picked up a team total of 22 ground balls.
The Pioneers are back in action Wednesday, April 8 as they host the University of New Haven at 4:00 p.m.

Freshman Ashley Olen scored a game-high five goals and was among five Post players to record at least three goals. Senior Alyssa Ritchie (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) had two goals for Bentley.
Junior Brianne Jackolski scored the opening goal of the contest for the Pioneers 2:45 into the game. Ritchie found the back of the net for Bentley and tied the game at one 1:16 later, with junior Jaclyn Griffin (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) tallying her 11th assist of the season.
After Ritchie's goal, however, it was all C.W. Post. They scored the next five goals to take a 6-1 lead before Ritchie netted her second of the game and team leading 25th of the season. Post then scored nine unanswered to lead 15-2 at halftime.
In the second half, Griffin scored her 17th goal of the season unassisted, and senior Kim Morris (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) and junior Erica de Silva (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) scored their sixth and 10th goals of the season respectively.
Bentley returns to Northeast-10 play on Tuesday night against Assumption at 7:00 p.m.
