Limestone Pummels St. Andrews in Conf. Carolinas Play
GAFFNEY, S.C. -- Limestone defeated visiting St. Andrews, 18-5, on Saturday behind 9 different goal scorers. Thomas Langan (Potomac, Md.) led both teams with 6 goals. The conference win improves Limestone to 5-3 overall (2-1 Conference Carolinas). St. Andrews dropped its 10th game and has an overall record of 3-10 (0-3 Conference Carolinas).
The Saints out shot the St. Andrews 65-27, but the Knights held the advantage in face-offs, with Ethan Young winning 14-25. Both teams had 30 groundballs apiece.
Limestone jumped out to an early 3-0 advantage with goals from Mike Poerstel (Annapolis, Md.), Langan off a Brendan Storrier (Lafayette, N.Y.) feed, and Jason Brammall (Greensborough, Australia). However, St. Andrews would narrow the lead to within 1 with back to back goals from Phil Hardy and Kyle Carnaggio. Jake Rogalia (Liverpool, N.Y.) and Hardy would trade goals to close the quarter, 4-3.
Teddy Prager (Seaford, N.Y.) scored the first two goals of the second quarter and the Saints never looked back, outscoring the Knights 14-2. Storrier had a game high 3 assist to go with his 2 goals. Rogalia tallied two goals and 1 assist and Poerstel recorded 2 goals, as well.
James Tuohy (Levittown, N.Y.) played 50:08 and recorded 7 saves, while St. Andrews' Patrick Wade made 25 saves on 65 shots.
Limestone will travel to Lees McRae College (1-7, 0-2 Conference Carolinas) on Wednesday April 8 to face the Bobcats in a Conference Carolinas showdown. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. St. Andrews will look to get their first conference win on April 8 when they face Belmont Abbey (4-5, 2-2 Conference Carolinas).
