St. Andrews Doubles Up Conference Rival Queens

LAURINBURG, N.C. - Sophomore Kim McDaniel (Joppa, Md.) score a game-high five goals and St. Andrews Presbyterian College scored eight straight goals in the first half en route to a 14-7 Conference Carolinas victory over visiting Queens University of Charlotte on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Katie Wright (Waterloo, N.Y.) also had five points with four goals and one assist as the Lady Knights improved to 9-5 overall and 6-4 in the conference. The Royals maintain 3-11 overall and 3-7 league ledgers after dropping their second straight.

Queens took more shots, 31-26, but SAPC senior goalkeeper Eryn McCaffrey (Cicero, N.Y.) made a game-high 14 saves including nine in the second half to eliminate any chance of a comeback. McCaffrey picked up her ninth victory of the season with the win in net.

St. Andrews took control early by breaking an early 1-1 tie with the next eight goals over a 20-minute span. McDaniel started the run with back-to-back tallies. Royals' freshman Brittany Philip (Painted Post, N.Y.) scored the final two goals of the first half to cut the halftime deficit to 9-3.

Queens scored two of the first three goals after the intermission to pull within five, 10-5, but a quartet of Lady Knights scored four consecutive goals on a pair of Royals penalties to pull away. Senior Carolyn Parsons (Glen Burnie, Md.) scored two late goals for Queens to cut the final margin of defeat to seven-goals.

SAPC won 17-of-23 draw controls including 10-of-13 in the first half to control the momentum of the game. Senior Courtney Ross (Newark, N.Y.) had a game-high four draw controls while classmate Katie Rhodes (Auburn, N.Y.) had a game-high six ground balls.

Junior Kerrie Brown (Irondequoit, N.Y.) and freshman Cara Manas (Harwood, Md.) both scored twice for St. Andrews. Brown finished with a three-point performance by adding one assist.

Senior Kelsey Binggeli (Newark, N.Y.) supplied the Knights with one goal and two assists while Courtney Ross and sophomore Alexis Goldman (Winter Springs, Fla.) both chipped in with one assist.

Philip and Parsons had two goals apiece to pace the visitors while the Royals got their other goals off the sticks of freshman Shannon Casey (Bel Air, Md.), sophomore Caitlin O'Rourke (Winter Springs, Fla.), and senior Brittany Weller (Fallston, Md.). Junior Kelley Duffey, who leads the league in assists, had two of the Royals four assists.

St. Andrews will celebrate "Senior Day" on Sunday when they host Rollins College at noon.
