Muhlenberg Works Overtime to Down McDaniel

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Amanda McGovern netted four goals, including the game-winner with 1:38 remaining in the first overtime to lead Muhlenberg to a 15-14 Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse victory over McDaniel on Saturday.

Brittany Baer (Westminster, Md./Westminster) recorded a career high-tying seven goals to lead the Green Terror (6-5, 2-3 CC), who played its fifth one-goal game of the season. Ruth Morronigello added three goals for the Mules (8-1, 4-1 CC), who tallied six of the game's final seven goals to win their sixth straight game.

Trailing 13-9 on a Kelly Scheler (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright) free-position goal with 8:37 to play, McGovern started the Muhlenberg rally off a Danielle Rosen feed nearly two minutes later. Angela Napoletano pulled the visitors within two with 4:33 showing.

With 1:02 on the clock, Morronigello finished Rosen's second assist before McGovern forced the extra session 22 seconds later. On a free-position shot 37 seconds into overtime, Baer netted her 53rd goal of the season to give McDaniel the one-goal edge.

With 47 seconds remaining in the first half of the first overtime, Morronigello evened the game before McGovern found the back of the net for her team-leading 28th goal of the year.

Lindsey McDonald (Germantown, Md./Damascus) found Baer twice in the game's first 1:39 to give the Green Terror an early 2-0 lead. Sara Hiller pulled the visitors within 2-1 but Jennifer Stone (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) and Baer stretched the lead to 4-1 before eight minutes had elapsed.

Trailing 7-4 with 10:14 to play in the first half, McGovern and Rosen hit back-to-back goals to pull Muhlenberg within 7-6 but Baer and Chelsea Ferruzzi (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) stretched the lead back to 9-6 at the break with tallies 21 seconds apart.

Morronigello and Hiller closed the deficit to 9-8 with 16:41 remaining in regulation before two Stone tallies keyed a 4-1 burst to give McDaniel the four-goal edge.

Stephanie Sudbook (Baltimore, Md./Loch Raven) added five draw controls, four ground balls and a caused turnover. Leanne Hollinger (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) made 11 saves in goal.

The Green Terror returns to action at Washington (Md.) on Tuesday. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
