McHugh Ignites Tigers in Victory over Regis

DURANGO, Colo. – The Fort Lewis College grounds crew cleared the snow off Ray Dennison Memorial Field 30 minutes before today's game. They could have waited for Holly McHugh to melt it. The red-hot junior attacker posted career highs with seven goals and eight points to lead Colorado College to a 19-15 victory over Regis University.

McHugh scored five times in the first half, including four during the final 12 minutes when she ignited an 8-1 run that turned a 4-2 deficit into a 10-5 halftime lead.

The Rangers caught fire early in the second half, outscoring the Tigers 7-1 during the opening 13:06 to take its only lead of the game at 12-11. Kate Liddle sparked the run by scoring three of her team-high six goals.

Gioia Garden and Kristin Rider each scored a pair of goals as CC regained control of the game with a 6-1 run during a span of 7:11 that gave the Tigers a 17-13 lead with 7:06 remaining.

Liddle added a pair of goals for Regis during the final 4:08 to cut CC's lead to three points on two different occasions, but McHugh and Ali Zarlengo answered for the Tigers.

Claire Preston and Kristin Rider paced the Colorado College defense with four ground balls and three draw controls. Jess Van Doren had six saves to earn the victory in goal.

Liddle had five draw controls for the Rangers, while Ashley Beauchemin added three ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers. Brittany Farniok stopped five shots for Regis.

The Tigers improved to 9-2, while Regis slipped to 7-3. Colorado College will face Fort Lewis College on Sunday.
