Scranton Cruises Past Moravian in Landmark Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The University of Scranton women's lacrosse team's scoring onslaught continued Saturday afternoon in its Landmark Conference opener against Moravian College.

Senior attacker Madelyn Sminkey (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) scored four of her five goals in the first half as the Royals jumped out to a 9-2 halftime lead and cruised to a 15-5 victory. Scranton, now 4-3 overall and 1-0 in the Landmark Conference, has poured in 48 goals in winning its last three games.

The Royals, who held a commanding 49-13 advantage in shots and a 14-8 margin in draw controls, also received three goals and an assist from senior attacker Erin Quinn (Baltimore, Md./The Institute of Notre Dame) and junior attacker Kristen Marquino (Baldwin, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) and two goals from sophomore defender Katie Slade (Buckingham, Pa./Central Bucks East) and sophomore midfielder Kristin Pickell (Ambler, Pa./Wissanickon).

Sarah Carman tallied all five goals for Moravian, which fell to 5-6 overall and 0-2 in the conference.

Junior goalie Cassie Murphy (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) made three saves for the Royals while Courtney Rosenberg finished with a game-high 22 for the Lady Greyhounds. Defensively, sophomore Liz Chase (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) and junior Amy Arnold (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) combined to cause six of Moravian's 14 turnovers.

Quinn and Sminkey currently lead the Royals in goals with 18 and 17 respectively. Scranton will return to Landmark Conference action this Wednesday, April 8, against Susquehanna University at 7:00 p.m. at Fitzpatrick Field.
