Seniors Lead Queens to Victory over Catawba

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - In the last home game at the Queens Sports Complex for the Royals six seniors, the group went out in style with a 18-10 win over non-conference opponent Catawba College. As a group, the seniors combined for 15 points and extended the Queens winning streak to three.

Leading the offense was Stephan LeBlanc (Restoule, Ontario, Highland) and Cory Thomas (Columbia, Md., River Hill). Each registered four goals two assists. Brian Lipscomb (Hilton Head, S.C., Hilton Head ) added two goals and one assist for three points. Goalie Tyler Rauch (Lake Mary, Fla., Lake Mary) gets the win and made two saves in the game while allowing five goals. The fifth senior to play Andrew Capallo (Bel Air, Md., C.M. Wright) was instrumental in the win, creating plays while the Royals were on offense.

Catawba (2-5) scored first in the game and would add three more in the opening quarter. Lipscomb, Thomas and LeBlanc posted the three Royals goals in the quarter.

Queens (6-5) led the scoring in the second quarter 4-1. Thomas scored goal number five, giving Queens the 5-4 advantage. The Royals would not look back. At the half, Queens was up 7-5.

The Royals came out of halftime on fire, scoring six unanswered goals. Queens' last two goals of the quarter came within seconds of each other as Brian Rose (Stony Point, N.Y., North Rockland) scored first, and then Corey Geroy (Horseheads, N.Y., Horseheads) scored just seconds later as Catawba was a man down.

The Indians were able to get one in the net during the third quarter. Catawba's Marty Tuohy scored five minutes into the last quarter of play, but the Royals offense could not be stopped. The combination of Brian Masterson (Toledo, Ohio, St. Johns) and Thomas accounted for two of the five fourth quarter goals. Catawba registered their highest number of shots during the fourth, 14, but second half goalie Rob Bacharach (Baltimore, Md., Dulaney) made the saves to keep Queens on top.

Faceoff player Mike Delallo (Syracuse, N.Y., West Genesee) dominated during the game, winning 22 of his 26 for Queens. He also had seven ground balls during the game.

Catawba's Braden Artem and Mike Dolesh each had three goals. Goalies Collin McClimans and Michael Pecchia each spent time in the net. McClimans let in five while Pecchia gave up 13.

CHARLOTTE, NC -- Queens outscored visiting Catawba 10-2 during the middle quarters and went on to pick up an 18-10 win in men's lacrosse action on Saturday night at the Queens Athletic Complex. The Royals improve to 6-5, while the Catawba Indians fall to 2-6.

Stephen LeBlanc and Cory Thomas each had four goals and two assists to lead Queens. Braden Artem (Acton, Ont, CANADA/Christ the King HS) and Mike Dolesh (Aquasco, MD/St. Mary's Ryken HS) each had three goals for the Indians.

Dolesh gave Catawba an early 1-0 lead with his first goals just over a minute into the game. He put the Indians up 4-3 with a tally as the first quarter expired. That would be the last lead for Catawba as LeBlanc tied the game at the 10:58 mark of the second half, beginning a 10-1 barrage for the hosts.

Queens held a 13-6 lead after three quarters. Catawba pulled within 14-8 with 9:07 left, but consecutive goals by Brian Masterson and another by Thomas pushed the margin to 17-8 with six minutes to play.
