ODU GK Sarah Geary Leads Team Past Towson

TOWSON, Md. – Freshman goalkeeper Sarah Geary (Springfield H.S./Springfield, Pa.) made a season-high 19 saves, including 11 in the second half, as Old Dominion University (7-3, 1-1) earned its second win in the last three games with a 10-7 Colonial Athletic Association victory over Towson University (6-5, 1-1) at Johnny Unitas Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Monarchs, who dropped their CAA opener on Friday afternoon against Delaware, withheld a 38-shot attack by the Tigers, including 22 shots in the second half.

Junior attacker Jacie Kendall (Souderton Area H.S./Harleysville, Pa.) gave the Tigers a quick 2-0 lead in the opening nine minutes when she scored a pair of goals off assists from seniors Meggie McNamara (Fayetteville-Manlius H.S./Fayetteville, N.Y.) and Britt Woodfield (South Carroll H.S./New Windsor, Md.).

After the teams traded goals to give Towson a 3-1 advantage, the Lady Monachs used a four-goal run to take a 5-3 lead with 5:25 remaining. Senior midfielder Kelly Kimener (Oakton H.S./Oakton, Va.) scored two of her game-high three goals during the run. The teams exchanged goals to end the first half, giving Old Dominion a 6-4 cushion at the intermission.

Less than four minutes into the second half, junior midfielder Nikki Marcinik (Southern H.S./Deale, Md.) scored on a free position shot to narrow the Tigers' deficit to 6-5 before junior attacker Ashley Kellogg (Downingtown West H.S./Downingtown, Pa.) regained the Lady Monarchs' two-goal advantage with a free position shot.

The teams traded goals again before freshman midfielder Katie Cloud (Severna Park H.S./Severna Park, Md.) scored off a McNamara assist with 11:22 remaining, closing the margin to 8-7. But, the Lady Monarchs used goals by freshman Lisa Bernardini (George School/Langhorne, Pa.) and junior Nicole McMahon (Commack H.S./Commack, N.Y.) to end the Tigers' comeback bid.

Senior Jessica noone (Stonewall Jackson H.S./Manassas, Va.) led the Old Dominion offense by scoring three goals with an assist while Kimener added a three-goal effort.

Kendall and Cloud each scored two goals for the Tigers in a losing effort while McNamara tallied a career-high three assists. With 21 assists, McNamara has moved into seventh place on the Tigers' single-season assist list.

The Tigers, who finished a six-game homestand with their game against the Lady Monarchs on Sunday, will travel to Hofstra on Friday afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. game against the Pride. Hofstra has won five straight games after a 12-11 overtime victory over George Mason on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Old Dominion will host the Patriots on Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m.

TOWSON, Md. - Behind a terrific defensive effort from rookie goalkeeper and a pair of hat tricks from seniors Kelly Kimener and Jessica noone, the Lady Monarchs dropped the Towson Tigers (6-5, 0-2) by a final score of 10-7 today. ODU improved to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference with the victory and defeated the Tigers for the third time in the last four seasons.

The Lady Monarchs struggled to maintain possession early in the first half, failing three clears and turning the ball over four times in the first seven minutes, leading to a pair of Towson goals from junior attack Jacie Kendall. ODU senior Kelly Kimener would answer with 20:31 remaining in the first half and get ODU on the board with an unassisted score, but Towson would go up 3-1 with an unassisted tally from freshman Katie Cloud.

Old Dominion settled in over the next ten minutes and evened the score at three apiece with a nice cut from Jessica noone on an assist from Nicole McMahon and an unassisted score from Saratu Dodo, scoring in her sixth straight contest.
