Fairfield Clinches MAAC Berth with 17-8 Win at Siena

The Fairfield University women's lacrosse team ran its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular season win streak to 10 games, with a 17-8 win over host Siena College on Sunday. With the win the Stags clinch a spot in the MAAC Championship, April 24-26, as they improve to 10-2 overall and 4-0 in league play.

Fairfield took a 2-0 lead 1:14 into the game on goals by Erin Rigby and Rebecca White, and led 3-2 on a Siena goal at the 27:28 mark. The Stags would take control of the game at that point, scoring 10 straight goals and 14 of the next 16 to take a commanding 17-4 advantage. Eight different Stags would tally goals during the run that concluded with a Kate Reardon goal with 12:58 to play in the second half. Siena (6-5; 0-4 MAAC) would score the final four goals of the game.

Kristen Coleman led the Stags on the offensive end with four points, touching net three times in the win. Abbey Goodwin also had three goals in the game, including the game-winning tally with 17:00 to play in the first-half.

Lauren Chatnik earned the win in net for the Stags, making eight saves in her 54:40 and allowing five goals. Kelley Brady played the final 5:20 with a save and three goals allowed. Liz Peters took the loss for Siena, making six saves and giving up all 17 goals.

The Stags out shot the Saints 30-23 in the game, and had a 33-29 ground ball advantage. The Saints won 16-30 draws on the afternoon and cleared 15-17, as compared to Fairfield's 21-28 clear rate. Fairfield was 6-7 in free-position attempts, while Siena was 1-6, and the Stags held and 8-7 edge in caused turnovers.

Fairfield will return to action on Tuesday, April 7 as it hosts Holy Cross at 4:00 p.m.
