Medaille Avenges '08 Loss by Downing Oberlin in 2OT
The Medaille College men's lacrosse team avenged its most bitter loss from 2008 with a 13-12 double overtime win at Oberlin College. It was nip and tuck the entire way, as neither team held a lead larger than two throughout.
For the second straight game the Mavs received a dominating performance from senior midfielder David Bennett (Macedon, NY/Palmyra-Macedon), who led all scorers with 5 goals -and 3 assists. His fifth goal was the decisive tally with 1:08 left in the second overtime period.
Bennett has tallied 13 goals in the last two games. Sophomore Jim Luthart (Amherst, NY/Amherst) dished out a career-high 4 assists in the game while senior Jeff Zacharias (Kirkville, NY/East Syracuse-Minoa) found the back of the net four times. With his four tallies, Zacharias moves into fifth place on the all-time list for career goals with 41.
Between the pipes, the Mavs received a standout performance from senior Ben Dlugosh (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon), who stopped 24 Yeomen shots. The win is the second in the last three games for Medaille and they are now 2-6 on the season.
Next up for Medaille is a home game against NEAC opponent SUNY Cobleskill on Saturday (4/11) at noon. It will be the first conference game in their history.
