BURLINGTON, Vt. - Colin McGeehin scored the game-winning goal with 3:21 left in double overtime to lift Holy Cross to a come from behind, 12-11 victory over Vermont in men's lacrosse on Tuesday afternoon. The Crusaders scored five of the last six goals of the contest, while the Catamounts fall to 4-7 with the loss.

Senior Andrew Kelleher (Delmar, N.Y.) led the Cats with three goals and two assists, while freshman Geoff Worley (Coronado, Calif.) added three tallies and an assist.

Vermont had a great chance to end the game in the second overtime, as after a steal in Holy Cross territory Worley fired a shot at a wide-open net after Holy Cross goalie Jimmy Harrison came out to make a play, but the attempt missed just high.

On the next possession Holy Cross pushed the ball down the field and Kenny Minor found a cutting McGeehin for the game-winner.

Vermont jumped out to a 5-1 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the second quarter, as five different Catamounts each recorded a goal. Kelleher opened the scoring 2:59 in with an unassisted tally, while Holy Cross got on the board 5:33 later on a goal from Luke Marchand.

Holy Cross (2-9) cut into Vermont's lead with a pair of scores within 13 seconds of each other, making it 5-3 with 7:14 remaining in the half. Freshman Thomas Galvin (Cockeysville, Md.) wrapped up the scoring in the first half, extending Vermont's lead back to three with an unassisted goal with 1:45 to go.

In the second half Vermont led 10-7 with 4:27 left in regulation after a goal by Kelleher, as he grabbed a rebound right in front of the cage and put it back all in one motion.

The visitors would answer with the next four goals, as Marchand gave Holy Cross its first lead of the day at 11-10 with only 39 seconds left. The Catamounts forced overtime as off a fast break Worley lined up straight on and put one past Harrison to knot the score with 17.7 seconds remaining.

Minor and Marchand each scored three goals for the Crusaders, while Harrison made 17 saves. Freshman Alex Plavner (Arnold, Md.) stopped 10 shots in goal in his first career start for the Catamounts.

The Catamounts return to action on Saturday when they travel to face Binghamton in America East action starting at 7:00 p.m.

NOTES: Vermont out-shot Holy Cross 48-31 ... Worley has now tallied multiple points in all 11 games this season ... Kelleher leads the team with 32 goals and 40 points scored ... Tuesday marked Vermont's first overtime game of the season.

With the win, the Crusaders improve to 2-9 overall, while the Catamounts fall to 4-7 overall. Junior Kenny Minor (South Hadley, Mass.) led the Crusaders with three goals and one assist for four points.

Senior Luke Marchand (Concord, Mass.) scored three goals and sophomore Matt Moran (West Henrietta, N.Y.) had one goal and two assists. McGeehin recorded two goals. Senior John Marino (Skaneateles, N.Y.), freshman A. J. Guarente (Gaithersburg, Md.) and freshman Andrew Morici (Manhasset, N.Y.) each had one goal. The goals by Guarente and Morici were their first collegiate goals. Junior Brendan Candon (Long Beach, N.Y.) and sophomore Conor McKenna (Summit, N.J.) each had one assist.

Vermont was led by Andrew Kelleher who scored three goals and had two assists for five points, while Geoff Worley had three goals and one assist for four points.
