Hood Hammered by St. Mary's College (Md.)
FREDERICK, Md.--Freshman Troy Hubbard and sophomore Dominique Shorter netted unassisted goals for the Hood College men's lacrosse team (1-12, 0-6 CAC) in a 17-2 Capital Athletic Conference loss to St. Mary's College (Md.) (6-5, 4-2 CAC) Tuesday afternoon in the Blazers' home finale.
After the Seahawks reeled off the game's first 10 goals, Hubbard got the Blazers on the board with his 19th tally of the spring at the 4:20 mark of the second quarter. Hubbard is now tied with sophomore Kris Miner for team-high scoring honors, each with 19 goals to their credit. Shorter's score came late in the third quarter and marked his 11th marker of the spring.
Dennis Rosson finished with six points for the visitors, scoring twice and assisting on four other Seahawk scores. Rosson was one of 11 players on the St. Mary's roster to find the back of the net. Will Dempster netted a hat trick to pace the Seahawks.
St. Mary's won 19 of the game's 23 face-offs and outshot Hood 58-9 on the afternoon. Nick O'Brien tallied 14 saves in defeat while Pat Simpson and JJ Strombosky turned away four shots for the victors.
Hood closes out the regular season Friday when the Blazers battle the top-ranked team in NCAA Division III, the Stevenson University Mustangs, at 4:00 p.m.

Frederick, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team posted a dominating 17-2 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Hood College Tuesday afternoon.
Sophomore attackman Dennis Rosson (Severna Park, Md./Severn) paced the Seahawks with a game-high six points on two goals and four assists, while freshman attackman Will Dempster (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) notched his first collegiate points as Dempster tallied a hat trick and a helper. Midfielders Chris Becraft (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) and Billy Scheurer (Telford, Pa./Souderton Area) each contributed two goals and an assist apiece.
St. Mary's (6-5, 4-2 CAC) got to work early and often as the Seahawks shutout Hood in the first period and netted six unanswered goals from six different players. The visitors opened up the second quarter with four straight, including back-to-back goals from Rosson, before freshman middie Troy Hubbard (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) tallied an unassisted goal at 4:20 to stop the onslaught and put the Blazers on the board. Scheurer scored his second of the day to give SMCM an 11-1 halftime lead.
Dempster scored two consecutive goals and Becraft chipped in one as the Seahawks tacked on three more in the third stanza. Sophomore midfielder Dominique Shorter (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) picked up the Blazers' (1-12, 0-6 CAC) final tally at 4:08 to be down 14-2 at the start of the fourth period.
Sophomore attackman Sean Reitenbach (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded his first two collegiate goals as the Seahawks outscored Hood, 3-0, in the final period.
The Seahawks dominated all offensive categories: shots (58-9), ground balls (49-25), and face-offs (19-of-23).
Senior captain Marc DiPasquale (Fallston, Md./Boys' Latin) was flawless on the face-off as DiPasquale was a perfect 17-of-17, including winning all 14 face-offs in the first half. He also scooped up a game-high six ground balls.
In goal, sophomore Pat Simpson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made three saves and gave up both goals in 45 minutes, while sophomore JJ Strombosky (Westford, Mass./Rivers) turned away one shot in the final 15 minutes of the game.
For Hood, sophomore Nicholas O'Brien (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) picked up 14 stops.
St. Mary's returns to action this Friday, April 10 as the Seahawks welcome No. 5 Salisbury University to Seahawk Stadium for a league tilt at 4:00.
