Bentley Ties Goals Record in Romp over Assumption
WALTHAM, Mass. – The Bentley University women's lacrosse team tied the program record for most goals in a single-game with a 24 goal outburst in a 24-3 win over Assumption in Northeast-10 play on a frigid Tuesday night. Junior attack Erica de Silva (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) led the Bentley charge with a career-high seven goals.
The Falcons had scored 24 goals in a single-game three times prior, with the most recent coming in a 24-9 win over Franklin Pierce last season. The 21-goal win is also tied for the largest margin of victory in program history, tying the 2003 team which beat Southern Connecticut 24-3.
Senior Alyssa Ritchie (North Andover, Mass./North Andover) equaled de Silva's output with seven points on three goals and four assists. Sophomore Leigh Tedeschi (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) set a new career standard with four goals, and freshman Olivia Bouchard (Warwick, R.I./Loomis-Chaffee) also had a hat trick.
Junior Jaclyn Griffin (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) had two goals and one assist. Her goal at the 1:23 mark of the first half was the 100th of her career, making her just the sixth player in program history to reach the century mark.
The Falcons actually trailed in this game, as sophomore Erin Theriault scored the first goal of the game for the Greyhounds. After that Bentley scored five in a row, with two coming from de Silva. A Theriault goal on a free-position shot made the score 5-2 with 18:23 left in the first half.
That goal only momentarily interrupted Bentley's momentum though. De Silva found the back of the net 45 seconds later, and that was the start of 12-goal run that was capped off by Griffin's tally. The Falcons led 17-2 at the break and eased to victory in the second half.
The win improves Bentley's record 5-6 overall and 3-1 in the NE-10. The Falcons' next game is Thursday against Southern Connecticut at home. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
