Limestone Pitches Shutout Versus Lees-McRae

GAFFNEY, S.C. – James Tuohy (Levittown, N.Y.) and the Limestone College defense held Lees-McRae College scoreless on 20 shots in men's lacrosse action on Wednesday. The 13-0 Saint win improves Limestone's overall record to 6-3 (3-1 Conference Carolinas), while the Bobcats fall to 1-8 on the season (0-4 Conference Carolinas).

Brendan Storrier (Lafayette, N.Y.) led the team in points with 2 goals and 4 assists, while Mike Poerstel (Annapolis, Md.) had a team high 4 goals and dished out 1 assist.

Limestone opened the game with an unassisted extra-man goal by Storrier. Storrier would also have a hand in the next goal, assisting on Poerstel's first goal of the game. However, after an Eric Turner (Dublin, Ohio) goal fed by Jake Rogalia (Liverpool, N.Y.) to make it 3-0, the Saints offense would be stymied by Bobcat goaltender Andy Nesdill. The sophomore net-minder held the Lees McRae defense together as he faced 60 shots, making 19 saves to keep the game close.

Poerstel would break the dry spell, netting his second goal late in the second quarter. After an unassisted Rob Patridge (Dublin, Ohio) goal, Poerstel would close out the half, scoring with 15 seconds remaining to bring the Limestone lead to 6-0.

Limestone would also get goals from Brian Patridge (Columbus, Ohio), Sam Buppert (Eldersburg, Md.), while freshman attacker Jimmy Langton (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.) recorded his first career goal.

Brian Zwick (Dublin, Ohio) went 5-6 in face-offs and picked up 2 groundballs, while Sean Bennett (East Moriches, N.Y.) went 3-5 and recorded a team high 3 groundballs.

The win sets up a showdown between Limestone and Pfeiffer University (7-2, 3-1 Conference Carolinas) on Saturday, April 11. The two teams will be vying for seeding and an opening round bye in the conference tournament held April 14-19. With a win, Limestone would tie Queens University with a 4-1 conference record, earning the #1 seed as a result of their early season win over the Royals, 14-8.

Game time against Pfeiffer is set for 3:00 p.m. on Saturday in Misenheimer, N.C.
