Mary Washington Runs by Christopher Newport
The University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team used five goals and four assists from Freshman Allie Kimmelman and six goals from freshman Catherine Kennedy in defeating Christopher Newport University, 18-10, on Wednesday in Newport News, Va. The Eagles improve to 10-5 on the season, while the Captains fall to 9-3.
The Eagles jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening 11 minutes, with Katie Wallis scoring two of her four goals, and Kimmelman, Kennedy, and Julia Milner adding solo goals. The Eagles led, 9-4, at halftime.
In the second half, the Eagles scored the first four goals of the second half to go up 13-4 en route to the 18-10 victory. Wallis had four goals for UMW, while Julia Milner added two goals and an assist.
The Eagles outshot the Captains, 34-26, and had 17 ground balls to 15 for CNU. Freshman Danni Guigli had 12 saves for the Eagles. UMW won 16 of 30 draw controls.
The Eagles will host Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
