Ohio Wesleyan Storms Past Saint Vincent

Junior midfielder Chris Ehlinger (Radnor, Pa.) and junior midfielder Andy Princehorn (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) each scored twice as Ohio Wesleyan opened the game with a 9-0 run and went on to defeat St. Vincent in non-conference action on Wednesday at Selby Field.

Senior attacker Karl Zimmerman (Utica, Mich./Brother Rice) put the Bishops on the scoreboard in the first minute of action, fielding a pass from senior attacker Nick Gallagher (Columbus/Dublin Scioto) and finding the back of the net just 42 seconds into the game.

Ehlinger followed with a goal, and Gallagher's score at the midway point of the first quarter made it a 3-0 game.

Sophomore defenseman Alex Haggerty (Granite Bay, Calif.), junior attacker Gavin Cunningham (Rye, N.Y.), Princehorn and Ehlinger followed with scores to extend the Bishop lead to 7-0 after the first quarter, and Princehorn and junior midfielder Craig Aronoff (Potomac, Md./The Bullis School) added second-quarter goals to give the Bishops a 9-0 lead with 8:56 left in the half.

Zach Wilfong and Ryan Kearney scored goals just over a minute apart to bring the Bearcats within 9-2, but the Bishops answered with a pair of goals by junior attacker Dave Castignola (Dublin/Scioto). Senior midfielder Kevin McMahon (Wilton, Conn.) added a goal with just 6 seconds left in the half as Ohio Wesleyan took a 13-2 lead at the intermission.

The Bishops pulled away in the third quarter, reeling off 5 straight goals at one point, with the run highlighted by a pair of scores by junior attacker Rob Young (Langhorne, Pa./Council Rock South).

Castignola led the Bishops with 4 goals and an assist, while Gallagher and Ehlinger finished with 2 goals and 2 assists apiece.

Sophomore Jud Hall (Columbus/Upper Arlington) recorded 7 saves during the first 3 quarters for Ohio Wesleyan. Freshman Dan Huckins (Commack, N.Y./Northfield-Mount Hermon (Mass.)) had 2 saves and sophomore Frankie Weschler (Wilmette, Ill./Loyola Academy) also saw action in the fourth quarter.

Kearney and Will DeLanoy each had two goals and an assist for St. Vincent. Jon McMahon went the distance in the Bearcat crease and finished with 12 saves.
