11th-Ranked Haverford Sprints Past Ursinus

HAVERFORD, Pa. – 11th-ranked Haverford College sprinted out to an 8-0 lead in the second quarter as the Fords (9-2, 5-0 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (3-7, 1-4 Centennial) 11-4 on Wednesday night at Swan Field in men's lacrosse play.

For Ursinus, junior attack Eric Farris (Pottsgrove, PA/Pottsgrove) had a goal and an assist, while freshman midfielder Jeff Ocampo (Palm Coast, FL/Mantanzas), senior attack Jason Orlando (Morton, PA/Springfield) and junior attack Dan Monzo (Collegeville, PA/Spring-Ford) each had a goal.

Farris, sophomore midfielder Pat Gillen (Merrick, NY/Calhoun) and freshman midfielder David Kraus (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) had assists.

Trailing 8-0 with 1:17 left in the second, Orlando scored the team's first goal with 20 seconds left unassisted. In the third quarter, Ocampo scored an extra man goal on a Kraus assist to cut the deficit to 8-2.

Haverford could put two more goals on the board, before Ursinus cut the deficit to 10-4 as Monzo scored on a Farris assist with 45 seconds left in the third. Farris scored his second goal of the game with 6:02 left in the fourth on a Gillen assist. Sophomore midfielder Reilly Hannapel (Stillwell, KS/Rockhurst Jesuit) and junior defender Vince Redko (Stony Brook, NY/Ward Melville) had three groundballs.

In goal, senior Tony Aquilino (Abington, PA/Archbishop Wood) had nine saves for Ursinus, who hosts Gettysburg on Saturday afternoon.
