No. 5 Gettysburg Vanquishes the Red Devils

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – With a Centennial Conference showdown with Franklin & Marshall College looming on the horizon, fifth-ranked Gettysburg College took care of business Wednesday night at Clark Field with a 16-8 victory over visiting Dickinson College. The Bullets remained perfect in six conference contests with the victory, while improving their overall mark to 11-1.

Juniors Jessica Crane (Sudbury, Mass./Sudbury-Lincoln), Lauren Woodman (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver), and Hollis Stahl (Highstown, N.J./Peddie School) each scored three times, with Crane adding a trio of assists for a career-high tying six points. Junior Lexie Hearn (Old Greenwich, Conn./Old Greenwich) also dished out three helpers and tossed in one goal.

Gettysburg and Dickinson (7-6, 3-3 CC) took a while to get the offenses revved up on a cold and windy night with the first goal by Woodman finally finding its way into the cage at 19:02. The teams split the next four goals before a 5-0 run by the Bullets blew the game open. Stahl accounted for two of the goals, while junior Nina Emala (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) notched two assists and one goal.

Back-to-back scores by Amy Jennings and Abby Larson cut the deficit to four (8-4) with four minutes before the half, but that would be as close as the visitors would get the rest of the way. Crane gave Gettysburg a six-point cushion (10-4) with the final two scores of the first half.

The Bullets had an answer for each of the first two Red Devil goals to start the second period and scored five of the final seven goals to secure the win. Gettysburg out-shot Dickinson 34-21 and forced the Red Devils into 23 turnovers.

Sophomores Marnie Commins (Fairfax Station, Va./Robinson) and Allegra Formento (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) each tossed in a pair of goals for the Bullets. The defensive effort was paced by sophomore Becky Lutz (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) who posted three caused turnovers and corralled a career-high seven draw controls. Junior Nicole Ditillo (Baldwin, Md./Fallston) scooped a game-high four ground balls and caused one turnover.

Gettysburg junior keeper Kristen Krammer (Woodbine, Md./Glenelg) made four saves, posted three ground balls, and caused a pair of turnovers. Kelsey Muir and Ana Sokol each tossed in a pair of goals for Dickinson, while Jessie Clark made eight saves.

Gettysburg has one more game on tap before renewing its rivalry with Franklin & Marshall next Wednesday (April 15). The Bullets visit Bryn Mawr College on Saturday, April 11, at 1:00 p.m.
