Johns Hopkins Posts Shutout of Fresno State

BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins held visiting Fresno State to just one shot en route to a 19-0 win on Thursday afternoon at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays, posting their third shutout since 1999 and first since 2005, snap a four-game losing skid and improve to 5-8 on the season. The Bulldogs, playing their inaugural season, fall to 0-11.

Hopkins needed just 22 seconds to get on the board as junior Sam Schrum (Pasadena, MD/St. Mary's) scored on a free position shot. Freshman Colleen McCaffrey (Mount Sinai, NY/Mount Sinai) followed that with a pair of goals as Hopkins put 16 on the board in the first half.

Freshman Cami Kramer (Vero Beach, FL/Vero Beach) sandwiched a pair of goals around strikes from sophomore Brooke Foussadier (Turnersville, NJ/Washington Township) and junior Paige Ibello (Cockeysville, MD/Maryvale Prep) as the lead grew to 7-0 just 7:19 into the game.

Six different Blue Jays would combine to score the next nine goals as Hopkins went into the half up 16-0. Highlighting the first half were sophomore Ashley White (Thurmont, MD/Walkersville) with her first goal of the season and freshman Alyson Friedensohn (Milton, MA/Milton Academy) with her first career goal.

Hopkins added three more goals in the first 7:56 of the second half, including freshman Megan Schrum's (Pasadena, MD/St. Mary's) first career goal, to close out the scoring. Andrea Alires earned a free position shot for the Bulldogs, but senior Amelia Harris (Clifton, VA/J.W. Robinson) came up with the stop to preserve the shutout.

In all, 13 different players scored for the Blue Jays, led by Kramer with her first career hat trick. Friedensohn, McCaffrey, White, Foussadier, Ibello, Sam Schrum and Megan Schrum all had multi-point games for Hopkins.

Sophomore Julianne Wisner (Parkton, MD/Notre Dame Prep) earned the start in goal and played just 5:20 before giving way to senior Jess Buicko (Altamont, NY/Hotchkiss). Buicko played the remainder of the half without facing a shot before Harris took over to start the second. For the Bulldogs, Diana Aguilera and Kohl Berry shared time in the cage.

Fresno State is the third different opponent that Hopkins has shut out in its 11 years as a Division I program. JHU shut out California (13-0) on March 17, 1999. Six years later, Hopkins shut out former ALC opponent Ohio University (14-0) on March 13, 2005.

Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, April 14 as it travels down I-95 to take on unbeaten and third-ranked Maryland. Game time from the Lacrosse & Field Hockey Complex in College Park, MD is slated for 4:00 pm.
