#3 Limestone Blanks Erskine to Clinch Regular Season Title
GAFFNEY, S.C.- The No. 3 Limestone College women's lacrosse team clinched the Conference Carolinas regular season title with a 21-0 victory over Erskine College on Thursday at Saints Field. The Lady Saints stand at 13-1 overall and 11-1 in Conference Carolinas play. The Fleet fall at 0-15 overall and 0-11 in the conference.
Limestone had 31 shots during the contest, and won 20 of the game's 21 draw controls. The Lady Saints also held the 11-3 advantage on ground balls.
Thirteen of the Lady Saints scored in the win. Shea Farrell (Blue Point, N.Y.), Renee Albro (Purcellville, Va.), and Casey Wilcox (Liverpool, N.Y.) scored three goals apiece. Raquel Prager (Seaford, N.Y.) and Kelly Oterson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) both scored twice.
Kelly Lalonde (Henrietta, N.Y.), Lauren Smith (Greer, S.C.), Melissa Howard (Ferndale, Md.), Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.), Kaitlyn Liccion (Auburn, N.Y.), Katie Ilott (Whitby, Ontario, Canada), Erin Growney (Rochester, N.Y.), and Kristen DeMarzi (Huntington, N.Y.) also scored.
Lalonde and Kelly Lickert (Penn Yan, N.Y.) each tallied three assists. Lauren Smith also recorded one assist.
Brigid Milchling (Cockeysville, Md.) played the first 30 minutes in goal for Limestone, while Michaela Reynolds (Columbia, Md.) played the second half. Reynolds posted Limestone's only save of the game. Growney and Dani Tosky (Bluffton, S.C.) each had five draw controls, while Albro had three. Prager had a game-high three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Erskine's Nina Paton (Port Elizabeth, South Africa) picked up two ground balls. Goalkeeper Kaitlyn Overley (Columbia, S.C.) posted seven saves.
Limestone heads to Spartanburg, S.C., on April 14 to play Converse at 7:00 p.m. Today was Erskine's final regular season game.
The Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse tournament will begin on April 15. The semifinals and championship games of the tournament will be hosted by Limestone College on April 18-19 in Gaffney.
