Nichols Downs Anna Maria in Non-Conference Matchup

DUDLEY, Mass. Led by 10 points from first-year attacker Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, Mass.), the Nichols College women's lacrosse team defeated Anna Maria, 14-4, in a non-conference game at Vendetti Field Thursday afternoon. Nichols, winners of two-straight, improve to 3-5 overall, while the AMCATS fall to 1-7 on the year.

Forand potted six goals and added four assists, while first-year attacker Ashley Gongas (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), added three goals. First-year attacker Brittany Tremont (Guilford, Conn.) pitched in with a pair of tallies and classmates Annie Chen (Framingham, Mass.), Emily Yourie (Ellington, Conn.), and Rachel Storey (Cumberland, Maine) each added a goal.

Freshman midfielder Katie Schebel (Ludlow, Mass.) recorded three goals for the AMCATS, while sophomore Crystal Torres (Southbridge, Mass.) added a goal and freshman midfielder Amanda Hevy (No. Brookfield, Mass.) chipped in with an assist.

Nichols took a four-goal lead in the opening 10 minutes before the AMCATS got one aboard courtesy of Schebel. The teams traded goals for a 5-2 Bison lead with 8:47 remaining, before Nichols closed out the half with a pair for an 8-2 halftime advantage.

The teams traded goals in the opening of the second half before Nichols rattled off a pair within a minute around the 20-minute mark, and then added another with 13:50 left to play.

Schebel struck once more for the AMCATS before the Bison capped the scoring with two more for the 14-4 final.

Nichols' Mary Michaud (Agawam, Mass.) made 18 saves in net for the win, while Katherine Chousa (Norwood, Mass.) stopped 12 Bison shots.

Nichols held a 27-17 advantage in groundballs, but led by nine draw controls from Schebel, Anna Maria maintained a 12-8 lead in draw controls.

The Bison are back in action at Endicott on Saturday in a 3:00 p.m. The Commonwealth Coast Conference game. Anna Maria travels to Becker for a 4:00 p.m. game on April 14th.
