Pfeiffer Outruns Bobcats; Teams to Meet Again Tomorrow
Misenheimer, NC – The Pfeiffer women's lacrosse team defeated the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College on a Friday afternoon after a 30-minute delay due to lightening. Pfeiffer took the game 22-11 to improve to 10-6 overall on the season. This Conference Carolinas win brings the Falcons to 8-3 in league play. The Bobcats fall to 6-9 overall and 2-8 in the league.
Pfeiffer opened the game up with three goals in the first nine minutes of play. The Falcons took a 12-5 lead in the first half thanks in part to Sarah Hebberd (Golden, CO), Heidi Karaszkiewicz (Glen Burnie, MD), Krissy Bentolila (Potomac, MD), and Kelly McConnell (Woodbridge, VA) who all chipped in two goals apiece. Desiree Cox (Hendersonville, TN) put three goals past Falcon starting goalkeeper Caitlyn Ryan (Perth, Australia) in the opening period. Pfeiffer outshot the Bobcats 30-11 in the first half.
Pfeiffer continued its barrage of scoring in the second stanza putting ten more goals on the board. Bentolila was on fire and tallied four more before the final buzzer. Karaszkiewicz added another pair to her game total. Cox also continued her offensive prowess for the Bobcats with four more goals on the day. The Falcons edged out Lees-McCrae 14-12 in shots in the final half.
Pfeiffer picked up 19 of 30 ground balls and won 22 of 35 draw controls. Pfeiffer was good for 4 of 6 free position shots compared to Lees-McRae who was 2 for 3.
Krissy Bentolila came up huge for the Falcons tallying 10 points on the day with six goals and four assists. Heidi Karaszkiewicz had four goals and won six draw controls. Sarah Hebberd marked four points on three goals and one assist. She also won four ground balls. Jamie Livingston (Winter Park, FL) grabbed four ground balls and won two draw controls.
Caitlyn Ryan made five saves with five goals scored against in the first half for the Falcons. Ryan also picked up two ground balls. Lindsey Rearigh (Monument, CO) entered the game for Pfeiffer in the second half and made three save with six goals scored against.
The Bobcats were led by powerhouse goal scorer Desiree Cox who tallied seven in the game. She also grabbed one ground ball and two draw controls. Net minder Martha Peacock (Mooresville, NC) made 14 saves in 60 minutes of play for the Bobcats.
The teams meet again on Saturday in Misenheimer with a scheduled start of 1:00 PM.
