#1 Stevenson Mustangs Thunder by Hood on Senior Day

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - A total of 16 players scored at least one goal, including four who notched their first of the season as the No. 1-ranked Stevenson University men's lacrosse team used a dominating team performance to down Hood 26-1 Friday at the Caves Athletics Complex on Senior Day.

The Mustangs (13-0, 7-0 CAC) finished the conference schedule unbeaten for the first time in school history and will be the top seed in next week's CAC Men's Lacrosse Championship which begins on Monday.

Stevenson scored the game's first 17 goals before Hood's Sofiane Lazar netted his 13th of the season off Kris Miner's team-leading eighth.

Junior Richie Ford (Baltimore/Towson) scored four of the Mustangs' first eight goals and had a hand in the six of the first 12 as he added two assists. He has totaled 15 goals over the team's last four contests and now has a team-high 34 this season.

Ford was one of three players to record a hat trick as sophomore Jimmy Dailey (Westminster/Winter Hills) had three and one assist while junior Shane Clift (Baltimore/North Carroll) totaled three goals to set a new career-high.

Stevenson totaled a season-high 61 shots and 56 ground balls and won 24-of-31 faceoffs. Freshman Joe Giampiccolo (Baldwin, N.Y./Baldwin) won 8-of-10 while junior Tyler Maguire (Montauk, N.Y./Whittier College) had a game-high six ground balls.

Sophomore Kenny Whittaker (Baltimore/Curley), sophomore Brandon Buddemeyer (Baltimore/Boys Latin), junior Trip Latta (Glenwood/Glenelg County) and freshman Pat Magee (Baltimore/Saint Victor) each netted their first goals of the season.

Whittaker also added his first assist while freshman Danny Schanne (Dayton/River Hall) picked up his first points with two assists. In goal, senior Chris Carroll (Deale/Southern) earned his first career victory after making a career-high seven saves in 24 minutes.

Freshman Ian Bolland (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mt. Lakes) and freshman Kyle Siegel (Montauk, N.Y./East Hampton) both saw their first action this season while junior Andrew Harrington (Easton/South Dorchester) made four saves in 18 minutes, both season-highs.

Nicholas O'Brien made 17 saves for the Blazers (1-13, 0-7 CAC), three shy of his season high.

As the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament, Stevenson will face the winner of York (Pa.) and Wesley next Thursday, April 16 at 4:00 p.m. The Spartans and Wolverines will play Monday at Wesley at a time to be announced later.

OWINGS MILLS, Md.--Junior Sofi Lazar of the Hood College men's lacrosse team (1-3, 0-7 CAC) netted his 13th goal of the season off a pass from Kris Miner in the second quarter in a 26-1 loss to the No. 1 Stevenson University Mustangs (13-0, 7-0 CAC) Friday afternoon.

Lazar's tally snapped a string of 17 straight scores by the top-ranked Mustangs and came with 4:06 left in the first half. Miner tallied his team-best eighth assist of the spring.

Richie Ford finished with six points to pace the Mustangs on four goals and two assists. In all, 14 different players scored for Stevenson, which remained perfect on the season.

Hector Montoya won seven face-offs and Nick O'Brien stopped 17 Mustang shot attempts on the day. Hood broke numerous program records this season, including goals scored (88) and face-offs won (146).
