No. 3 Colby Downs Connecticut College to Win 9th Straight
WATERVILLE, Maine -- The third-ranked Colby College women's lacrosse team won for the ninth straight time, as the Mules opened up a 10-1 halftime lead on the way to a 16-8 win against Connecticut College on senior day Saturday at Bill Alfond Field.
Colby improved to 10-1 overall and 6-1 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference. Connecticut College falls to 3-8 overall and 0-7 in league play.
Colby's seven seniors were playing their final regular season NESCAC game and many made an impact in the game. Kate Sheridan (Hingham, Mass.), the Mules' three-time All-American, had three goals and two assists. Becky Julian (South Windsor, Conn.), an All-American last year as a junior, added three of Colby's opening four goals in the game. Senior midfielder Heather Nickerson (Falmouth, Mass.) added two goals and one assist, while senior midfielder Cary Finnegan (West Hartford, Conn.) had one goal and two assists.
First-year midfielder Claire Donegan (Great Falls, Va.) had two goals and one assist for Colby. Kathleen Kramer (Norwell, Mass.) had two goals and reached 50 for her career in her junior season. Amy Campbell (North Andover, Mass.) and Alison Iannotti (North Haven, Conn.) both had one goal.
Colby sophomore defender Lexi Crook (South Burlington, Vt.) scored her first collegiate goal on a free-position attempt to give the Mules a 10-1 lead. Crook also had three caused turnovers, three draw controls, and three groundballs.
After taking the 10-1 halftime margin, the Mules scored three of the opening four goals to go up 13-2.
Emily Mason (Williamstown, Mass.) had two goals and one assist for Connecticut College. Diane Essis (Belchertown, Mass.) added two goals, while Sara Christopher (Andover, Mass.) and Ashley Crutchfield (Concord, N.H.) both had one goal and one assist. Abby Hill (Stoneham, Mass.) and Paige Pascarelli (Wayne, Pa.) also tallied for the Camels.
