CINCINNATI – The University of Cincinnati lacrosse team lost, 17-4, on Saturday afternoon at Nippert Stadium to No. 16 Loyola (Md.) in BIG EAST action.

Loyola rushed out to a 4-0 lead in the first five minutes of play and never looked back. The Bearcats put back-to-back goals on the scoreboard when Lindsey Marshall (Hilliard, Ohio/Ohio) scored at the 23:13 mark of the first period, and Lynsey Burton (Smithtown, N.Y./Ohio) took a feed from MacKenzie Parsons (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) with 23:36 remaining in the period.

Natalie Starvaggi (Loveland, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) added a goal with 3:15 left in the first period for the Bearcats. UC's goal in the second period came from Jenn Doran (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) with 1:22 left to play.

Loyola was led in scoring by Abby Rehfuss and Mary Heneberry who each scored four goals for the Greyhounds. Katherine Russo (Westminster, Md./Winters Mills) recorded a career-high 17 saves in goal for the Bearcats.

The Bearcats welcome Louisville on Wednesday, April 15, at 7:00 p.m. for a BIG EAST game at Nippert Stadium. The game will be Senior Night for UC's lone senior, Lindsey Marshall.

CINCINNATI – Loyola's Abby Rehfuss and Grace Gavin each scored twice in the game's first five minutes, helping the 16th-ranked Greyhounds jump out to a 4-0 lead, and Loyola cruised to a 17-4 BIG EAST Conference victory over host Cincinnati Saturday afternoon at Nippert Stadium. Rehfuss and Mary Heneberry each finished with four goals apiece to lead all players.

Loyola (9-4 overall, 2-3 BIG EAST) won the opening draw control, and Rehfuss put the Greyhounds on the board off a Colleen O'Keefe assist 16 seconds into the contest. Gavin then scored a pair of goals – the first on a free-position shot and the second on an O'Keefe assist – 40 seconds apart, less than two minutes after Rehfuss' first.

Rehfuss made it a 4-0 Loyola lead at 25:10 with an unassisted score. Lindsey Marshall and Lynsey Burton scored nearly seven minutes apart for the Bearcats (5-8, 0-5), pulling Cincinnati within two, 4-2, at the 17:35 mark. That, however, is as close as the Bearcats would draw for the remainder of the game.

Heneberry took an Emily Gibson pass and scored almost two minutes later, starting a stretch of seven Loyola goals in a row. Heneberry scored three of her goals during that run, and Rehfuss capped it with her fourth with 5:04 left in the first half, giving the Greyhounds an 11-2 advantage. After a Natalie Starvaggi score for the Bearcats, Heneberry scored her final goal of the game to put Loyola up 12-3 at the half.

Gavin scored almost nine minutes into the second half, and Cara Filippelli added a pair of free-position goals 11 minutes apart to put Loyola ahead 15-3 with 6:43 remaining. Maura Kenny then scored two of her three goals with less than four minutes left before Cincinnati's Jenn Doran tacked on the game's final goal.

Loyola had 41 shots in the game, compared to Cincinnati's 17, and the Greyhounds controlled 15 of the game's 23 draws. Filippelli recorded four caused turnovers, and Gibson added three. Mary Clare Taylor picked up a career-high four ground balls for Loyola.
