No. 8 Gettysburg Holds off Ursinus for 7th Straight Win

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Eighth-ranked Gettysburg got three goals each from senior attack Zach Pucci and sophomore midfielder Andrew Ryan as the Bullets (9-3, 5-1 Centennial) doubled up Ursinus (3-8, 1-5 Centennial) 12-6 Saturday afternoon in men's lacrosse play. Pucci also added in an assist for Gettysburg, who scored five straight goals in the second half to pull away from the Bears.

For Ursinus, junior attack Eric Farris (Pottsgrove, PA/Pottsgrove) had three goals, while freshman midfielder Jeff Ocampo (Palm Coast, FL/Mantanzas) had a goal and an assist in the loss.

Gettysburg took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter, before Ursinus got on the board with 3:47 to go as freshman midfielder David Kraus (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) scored on an assist from sophomore midfielder Jeff Leonard (Ambler, PA/Germantown Academy).

Gettysburg took a 4-1 lead at the end of the quarter as Pucci scored with just .1 seconds left on an pass from senior midfielder Tom O'Donnell. Trailing 6-1, Ursinus got back-to-back goals from Farris, his last one coming with 2:47 left on an assist from sophomore midfielder Tony Ubertaccio (Green Village, NY/Delbarton) to cut the deficit in half to 6-3.

Once again, Gettysburg scored in the final moments of the quarter, getting a goal from sophomore midfielder Danno Lynch with 30 seconds left for a 7-3 halftime lead.

Ursinus got two goals to start the second half, as Ocampo scored with 8:39 left to cut the lead to 7-4, followed by an extra-man goal from Farris at 7:51 to get within two. The Gettysburg five-goal run started as the Bullets scored a short-handed goal with 7:23 left as O'Donnell scored his second goal of the day.

Ryan would score with 10:27 left in the game, followed by two goals from Pucci at 9:30 and 5:51 left for an 11-5 lead. Ursinus' final goal of the game came with 1:00 left as senior attack Jason Orlando (Morton, PA/Springfield) scored on an Ocampo assist. O'Donnell scored one final goal for Gettysburg, with just one second left for the final score of 12-6.

Senior goalkeeper Tony Aquilino (Abington, PA/Archbishop Wood) had eight groundballs to go along with 14 saves. The Bears won 13 faceoffs on the day, with sophomore midfielder Graig Gallo (Winter Springs, FL/Winter Springs) going 9-for-13.

Ursinus will head to Susquehanna on Wednesday night.

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College closed to within two goals early in the second half against Gettysburg College, but the eighth-ranked Bullets held strong down the stretch and scored five of the final six goals to secure their seventh-straight victory 12-6 on Saturday, April 11. Senior Zach Pucci (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood) and sophomore Andrew Ryan (Palm Beach, Fla./Westminster School (Conn.)) each posted hat tricks for Gettysburg (9-3, 5-1 CC), while junior Joe Brody (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) tossed in career goal No. 100.

Sitting on 99 goals heading into the contest, Brody wasted little time to reach the century mark with the game's first goal 1:10 into the first quarter, becoming just the 13th player in the Bullets' rich history to reach the mark. Gettysburg added two more goals by sophomore Danno Lynch (Medfield, Mass./Avon Old Farms (Conn.)) and Ryan before Ursinus got on the board. Pucci made it a 4-1 Gettysburg advantage at the end of the first period with a goal right before the horn.

The visitors tacked on the first two goals of the second quarter to take a 6-1 lead with 6:08 before the half. Ursinus (3-8, 1-5 CC) began its comeback before the break with back-to-back goals by Eric Farris, and following a goal by Lynch which made it 7-3 at the half, the Bears tallied the first two goals of the third period to pull to 7-5.
