Hamilton Drops Liberty League Contest to Clarkson

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Tom Ross '09 scored five goals and assisted on another to lead visiting Clarkson University to a 13-5 win against Hamilton College in a Liberty League men's lacrosse game played at Campus Road Athletic Field on April 11.

Ross is second on the team with 29 goals and 37 points. Greg Gibbons '09 chipped in three goals, one assist and five ground balls. Gibbons leads the Golden Knights (8-2 overall, 3-0 Liberty) with 36 goals and 44 points. Brian Hoey '09 added two goals and two assists and Tyler Long '11 contributed two goals and one assist. Pat Kilday '12 won 9-of-11 faceoffs. John Svoren '09 made 10 saves in 57-plus minutes in goal.

Jon Leanos '12 paced the Hamilton offense with one goal and one assist. Leanos leads the team with 14 assists and 25 points. Henry Burchenal '12 scored one goal and scooped up three ground balls. Max Vaickus '12 stopped 12 shots through three quarters. Christian Kunhardt '10 made three saves in the fourth quarter -- his first action this year.

Clarkson held a 4-3 lead late in the second quarter when Burchenal picked up a loose ball around midfield, sprinted into the Continentals' offensive zone, and fired a shot past Svoren for his seventh goal with five seconds left. The scored was tied at 4-4 at the break.

The Golden Knights scored the first six goals of the second half to seize control. Hoey notched the first two goals, including one while Clarkson was a man-up just 1:40 into the third quarter. Gibbons made the score 10-4 on an assist from Jon Cathcart '09 (two assists) with 12:44 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Stephen Lefebvre '11 stopped the run for Hamilton (3-7, 1-3) with his fifth goal. Defenseman Andy Sigler '10 carried the ball from the Continentals' defensive zone to the offensive zone and passed to Lefebvre in front of the goal and Lefebvre scored with 8:44 left. The assist was the first career point for Sigler.

Ross scored three goals in the final 5:42 to clinch the win for the Golden Knights. Clarkson has won six straight games and remained in a first-place tie with St. Lawrence University with identical 3-0 league records. The Golden Knights lead the all-time series with Hamilton, 31-18.
