Colgate Downs Bucknell in Patriot League Action

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Ashley Didio (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Courtney Miller (Chappaqua, N.Y.) each tallied three goals to lead Colgate to a 12-7 victory over Bucknell, Saturday afternoon in a clash between the top two women's lacrosse teams in the Patriot League.

With the Senior Day victory, the Raiders clinch home field advantage for the upcoming Patriot League Tournament, April 24-26 at Tyler's Field. Game times will be announced at a later date. It was the 10th victory in the last 11 contests for Colgate.

After the Bison tied the game at 4-4 on a free position shot by Julia Braun with 12:14 left in the opening half, the Raiders scored three-consecutive goals in the final six minutes to take a 7-4 lead into intermission.

Brie Moran (Little Silver, N.J.) gave the Raiders the advantage for good with 5:56 remaining by finding the back of the net on a successful free position shot attempt. After Colleen Bubnack (Syracuse, N.Y.) collected the draw control, the sophomore fed a streaking Miller, who scored 10 seconds later to up the Raiders' lead. Then Bubnack capped off the first half scoring with 32 seconds left in the half.

Bucknell, which fell to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in league play, shaved the deficit back to two goals at 7-5 as Bonnie Buechel posted her third goal of the contest 3:51 into the second half. Colgate answered with three consecutive goals to get some breathing room. Miller scored back-to- back goals with 18:59 and 16:17 remaining, while Moran checked in with her second of the game 36 seconds after Miller's second goal.

The two teams traded goals in the final 7:03 of the game. Molly Carroll (Swarthmore, Pa.) and Didio connected for Colgate's final two goals of the contest.

Bubnack and Moran each finished with two goals in the victory, while Meghan Lawler (Liverpool, N.Y.) dished out three assists.

The Raiders outshot Bucknell 32-15 on the afternoon. Christina Roa (Potomac, Md.) improved to 5-0 in her young career after making four saves in the second half. Sara Drexler (Pottstown, Pa.) got the start and made one save in the opening half. Bison netminder Alyssa DeLorenz kept her team in the game by making 14 stops.

Colgate, now 12-3 overall and 5-0 in league action, will travel to face Lehigh, next Saturday afternoon in its final regular-season game of the year. The 27th meeting between the two schools is set for a 1:00 p.m. start in Bethleham.

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Colgate scored three times late in the first half to break open a tie game and never looked back, defeating Bucknell 12-7 in a battle of Patriot League women's lacrosse unbeatens Saturday at Tyler's Field. Both teams came in with perfect 4-0 conference records, but it was the defending champion Raiders securing home field advantage for the Patriot League Tournament with the victory.

Bonnie Buechel (South Orange, N.J./Columbia) scored three goals and Carol Donohue (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) and Julia Braun (Tomkins Cove, N.Y./North Rockland) tallied twice each to account for all seven Bucknell goals. Alyssa DeLorenz (Garland, Texas/Plano East) had a strong game with 14 saves, eight of them coming in the first half when the Bison were outshot 19-6.

Bucknell is now 9-5 overall and has dropped back-to-back games for the first time all year. Colgate won its fifth game in a row to improve to 12-3.

The contest was tight throughout most of the first half. The game was tied at 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4 before the Raiders gained some breathing room in the final six minutes. Brie Moran and Courtney Miller scored goals just 10 seconds apart to turn a 4-all tie into a 6-4 lead with 5:46 remaining in the half. Then with just 32 seconds left it was Colleen Bubnack scoring to make it 7-4 at the half.
