No. 12 Boston University Rallies to Get Past Vermont
BURLINGTON, Vt. - The No. 12 ranked Boston University Terriers used a second half surge to post a 12-9 victory over the Vermont Catamounts in America East women's lacrosse action at Moulton Winder Field on Saturday afternoon. The Terriers out scored Vermont 8-4 in the second stanza after trailing 5-4 at the break to earn the team's 10th victory over the season (10-3) and remain unbeaten in America East (4-0). The Catamounts fall to 7-6 overall and 2-2 in league play.
Vermont stormed out to 4-1 lead to start the game. UVM scored the first three goals of the game, including a pair by Sara Buxton (Northfield, Ill.), and Sarah DeStefano (Eliot, Maine) added another tally at the 17:09 mark to give the Catamounts the three-goal advantage.
The Terriers answered back with three straight goals, including two by Traci Landy, to even the score up at 4-4 with 5:21 left in the first half. Vermont pushed ahead by one on a goal by freshman Samantha Stern (Cherry Hills, N.J.) at 1:03, off an assist by Kristen Millar (Whitby, Ontario), and UVM would take 5-4 lead into halftime.
The Catamounts scored the first goal of the second half on an unassisted tally by Allison Pfohl (Niskayuna, N.Y.) to increase their lead to two, 6-4. Boston U's Sarah Dalton scored twice as the Terriers came back to tie the game up again, 6-6, with 21:47 remaining. Rachel Collins added an 8-meter shot to give the Terriers their first lead of the day at the 20:32 mark of the second half. Hannah Frey added an unassisted goal to push Boston U's lead to two, 8-6, with 19:05 left.
DeStefano and Buxton scored back-to-back goals for Vermont to knot the game up at 8-8 with 13:57 showing on the clock. Following Buxton's the Terriers won the draw, marched down the field and Xan Weitzel scored 12 seconds later to allow Boston U to regain the lead, one they would not give up. Weitzel's tally ignited a four-goal rally to take control of the game. Weitzel and Hannah Frey collected three points each in the flurry of action.
DeStefano and Buxton finished the game with three goals each and Millar added three assists to lead the Catamounts. Freshman Olivia Hatfield (Alpharetta, Ga.) made 10 stops in the Vermont net.
Dalton and Landy finished the day with three goals each for Boston U and Frey added three assists. Rachel Klein was credited with six saves in the Terrier goal.
Vermont returns to action on Saturday (April 18) when it travels to New Hampshire for a 1:00 p.m. game at Memorial Field.

- Kristen Millar remains one goal shy of breaking the all-time mark in UVM history for goals scored. She is currently tied with former standout Vanessa Cox '05 at 133 goals.
- Millar inched closer to the all-time NCAA Division I mark in draw controls, collecting four on the afternoon. She is seven draw controls away of breaking the mark of 334 set last year by former Maryland All-American Dana Dobbie.
- Millar's three assists against Boston U allowed her to break the 50-point plateau for the fourth straight year and becoming the first player in UVM history to achieve the feat. On the year, Millar has 26 goals and 25 assists for 51 points.
- Millar is one assist shy of tying her own UVM mark for most assists in a single season, which she did in 2006 and 2008.
- Freshman Allison Pfohl is one goal shy of tying the rookie record for most goals in a season at Vermont. Pfhol scored once against the Terriers and has 28 goals on the year.
