No. 17 Cortland Tops Fredonia to Win Fifth Straight

FREDONIA, N.Y. - Sophomore Brianna Shost scored a career-best four goals to lead the nationally 17th-ranked Cortland women's lacrosse team to a 14-7 win at Fredonia St. Saturday afternoon. The Red Dragons won their fifth consecutive game and improved to 7-4 overall and 4-0 in the conference. The Blue Devils fell to 7-2 and 1-2.

Senior Danielle Torre (Massapequa) tallied three goals for Cortland and surpassed 100 career points in her two-year Cortland career. Senior Meghan Gallagher (Long Beach) had two goals and two assists, freshman Lindsay Abbott (South Onondaga/Onondaga Central) contributed two goals and an assist.

Junior Nicki Mahoney (Canandaigua/Canandaigua Academy) scored twice and senior Lindsay Bakker (Sloatsburg/Suffern) added a goal and an assist. Cortland's two freshmen goalies split time in the cage with Amanda Caloia (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) making three saves in the opening half and Brianna Straut (Nanuet) stopping seven shots in the second half.

For the Blue Devils, Amy Simon had two goals and an assist, Emily Fink netted a pair of goals and Katie Monaghan, Morgan McNamara and Laura Culhane each scored a goal. Nicole Faulise made four saves.

Cortland took a 7-3 lead at the half with Gallagher and Torre each scoring twice. In the second half, Cortland steadily pulled away as Shost scored three of her goals.
