#2 Roanoke Explodes in 2nd Half to Down #14 Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, VA – The second-ranked Roanoke College men's lacrosse team controlled the second half of play Saturday night en route to a 19-12 victory over #14 Lynchburg College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.

The Hornets led 7-6 at halftime, behind two goals from senior attack Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield). The second tally broke the 15-year school record for career goals, topping Mike Marchetti's '94 career record of 162. Tolson added two second-half scores and now stands at 165 for his career.

Lynchburg scored quickly out of intermission, as Eddie Bilinkas (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) scored his third tally of the contest to give LC an 8-6 lead. The Maroons would dominate the remainder of the second half, outscoring their hosts 13-4 the rest of the way.

Bilinkas and Tolson both finished with four goals for Lynchburg, and Dylan Hoff (Chester Springs, PA/Downingtown East) added two goals and an assist. Ethan Farrell (Nantucket, MA/Nantucket) posted a goal and two assists while Michael Mundorf (Cambridge, MD/Mt. Saint Joseph) had two helpers.

Face-offs were key for Roanoke's success. Greg Khanzadian won 18 of his 23 opportunities and RC controlled 25-of-33 for the game. Matt Quinton led the Maroon offense with four scores and an assist and Pat March and Chas Carlson each found the back of the net three times. March add four assists, and Trey Keeley added two goals and two assists. Roanoke stays undefeated thus far on the season with a 14-0 overall record and a 3-0 record in the conference.

Lynchburg (8-4/2-1 ODAC) looks to get back into the win column Wednesday against ODAC foe Hampden-Sydney College. The first face-off is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Maroons tied a school-record 14-straight winning-streak and improved their best start in school-history to 14-0, along with a 4-0 mark in conference play. The Hornets dropped to 8-4, 2-1 in the ODAC.

The Maroons ruined the senior night for 10 Hornets players by dominating the second half of play. For the game, the Maroons held a 56-32 shots advantage, won the groundball battle, 63-36, were successful in 13-of-14 clear attempts and won 25-of-33 face-offs.

Roanoke was one goal shy of breaking the school-record for most 20-goal games in a season. They are tied with the 1992 and 1993 teams with eight. The 19 goals are the most scored since 2006 while the seven-goal win was the largest since 2004.

Roanoke jumped out to an early 4-1 lead and look to cruise to another ODAC victory with 6:17 remaining in the first quarter.

Lynchburg, ranked #14 in this week's USILA poll, reeled off seven of the next nine goals including the one to open the second half to take an 8-6 lead and looked to change the swing of the game.

But the Maroons responded hard with scoring seven-straight goals to regain the lead for good, 13-8 with heading into the final period. They continued to take control of the game, scoring five-straight goals in the next 10 minutes of play to take a commanding 18-9 lead with 5:41 left to play.

Pat March led Roanoke with three goals and four assists while Matt Quinton had four goals and one assist. Chas Carlson added three goals and Trey Keeley chipping in two goals and two assists.

March moved up to 17th on the all-time scoring list at Roanoke (161 pts) and scored over 100 career goals (101). Carlsons' 178 career points now puts him at 12th all-time. Quinton moved up five spots to 33rd on the all-time in career scoring with 106 points.
