Binghamton Knocks off Vermont in America East Action

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton defeated Vermont 8-4 in America East men's lacrosse action at the Binghamton Sports Complex on Saturday night. Senior attack Jake Boyce and senior midfielder Duncan Streeten each scored twice for the Bearcats, who improved to 2-9 (1-2 AE) with the win. Sophomore Liam Thomas (Spring Lake Heights, N.J.) scored a pair of goals for the Catamounts, who dropped to 4-8 (1-2 AE) with the loss.

Sophomore Derek Lichtfuss (Lutherville, Md.) added his 19th goal of the season and sophomore Parker Bunnell (San Diego, Calif) also scored for the Catamounts. Freshman Alex Plavner (Arnold, Md.) made nine saves in his first career start.

Bunnell scored 1:08 into the game on an assist by Lichtfuss to give Vermont a 1-0 lead. Binghamton responded with a pair of goals by Street and Boyce to take a 3-1 advantage with 10:34 left in the first quarter. Then Thomas scored for Vermont before senior Chris Mulheron answered with a goal for Binghamton to make it 4-2 Bearcats after one.

The two teams exchanged goals in the second period and Binghamton opened up a 6-3 advantage in the third quarter on a goal by sophomore Frank Dolan. The Bearcats outscored the Catamounts 2-1 in the fourth quarter to finish off the 8-4 win.

Vermont returns to action next Sunday (April 19) at Moulton Winder Field at 1:00 p.m. against No. 18 Albany.
