No. 13 Washington & Lee Runs Past Randolph-Macon

LEXINGTON, Va. – Washington and Lee had 10 different players find the back of the net in the first half as the 13th-ranked Generals cruised to a 22-5 ODAC victory over Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon at Watt Field.

The Generals jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opening 8:53 of the contest, including two goals by senior attacker Katie Flippen (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Academy). The Yellow Jackets began chipping away at W&L's advantage and sliced it to a two-goal game (5-3) at 17:52. However, the Blue and White outscored R-MC, 10-2, to enter the break with a 10-goal cushion (15-5). W&L then tallied seven unanswered goals in the second half in cruising to the 17-goal triumph.

Washington and Lee (9-4, 6-1) was led by sophomore midfielder Emmy Mathews (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr), who totaled three goals and one assist. Sophomore attacker Wilton Megargel (Charlottesville, Va./St. Anne's-Belfield) and senior midfielder Kelsi Robinson (West Chester, Pa./Westtown) netted three goals apiece, while junior attacker Britten Mathews (Richmond, Va./Collegiate) amassed two goals and two assists.

Flippen, first-year attacker Alli Shearin (Essex Fells, N.J./West Essex) and senior midfielder Colleen Evans (Lexington, Va./Rockbridge County) tallied two goals each, while sophomore attacker Kate Speare (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) and first-year midfielder Maddie McKaig (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) added one goal and one assist each. Sophomore goalkeeper Katharine Farrar (Lexington, Va./Episcopal) played the majority of the time between the pipes and registered four saves, while first-year Jennifer Linder (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) played the final 7:26 of the game and did not face a shot.

Randolph-Macon (7-5, 5-2) was paced by junior attacker Laura Fox's (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) two goals and one assist. Sophomore midfielder Elyse Cooper (Crownsville, Md./Old Mil) added two goals, while senior midfielder Morgan Hutchinson (Manakin-Sabot, Va./Steward School) chipped in one goal. Sophomore netminder Alex Flammia (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) played 56 minutes in goal and recorded seven shots, while sophomore Kelly Stuhlman (West Haven, Conn./West Haven) played the last four minutes and did not register any saves.

The Generals return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Guilford for a 4:00 pm contest.
