Burton's Six Goals Send No. 16 Big Red Past Adrian

Brady Burton (Dublin, Ohio/Jerome) scored a season-high six goals, with four of those coming in the opening quarter, helping the No. 16 Denison Big Red to a 18-4 victory over Adrian College on Saturday night from Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.

The Big Red poured on the offense in the opening quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 8-3 and outshooting them 20-4. Burton scored the first three goals of the contest off assists from Cory Couture (San Diego, Calif./Coronado), Nate Hall (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and Ted Gulyas (Medina, Ohio/Medina). Burton also tacked on an assist late in the first quarter off a goal by Hall. Burton's six goals give him 125 for his career.

DU held a 13-3 lead at halftime. In the second quarter senior Dan Maude (Wayne, Pa./Haverford School) scored twice, giving him 16 goals on the season. His second goal was a dazzling unassisted laser beam that hit nothing but net in the upper right corner of the cage. Maude finished with two goals and two assists. Denison's other scoring leaders were Klye Bliss (Basking Ridge, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) who had three goals, Hall ended with two goals and three assists and Tanner Smith (Boxford, Mass./Brooks School) scored once but added three helpers.

Four goalies played at least five minutes for the Big Red. Freshman Gregg Shannon (Lindenhurst, N.Y./St. Anthony's) played the first half and had two saves. Dan Wallace (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) got 19 minutes of action and turned in one of the nicest saves of the season late in the third quarter. He led DU with three saves. Patrick Cuff (Western Springs, Ill./Lyons Township) and Connor Donovan (Bluemont, Va./Georgetown Prep) combined for 4 saves in 11 minutes.

Adrian goalies Pat Gaeger and Eric Lindstrom combined for 11 saves.

Denison outshot the Bulldogs 50-18 and finished with 46 ground balls. Alex Hardt (Dallas, Texas/Episcopal) led the team with five ground balls and Nick Farrell (New York, N.Y./Millbrook School) added four. DU took 18-of-26 face-off's and Connor Detjen (Winnetka, Ill./Loyola Academy) was 15-for-19.

Denison committed six penalties for 4:30 but Adrian was 0-for-6 in extra-man opportunities. Denison was 1-for-2 in EMO thanks to a goal by Hall from Maude in the third quarter.

The win moves Denison's record to 8-1 overall and runs their winning streak to seven games dating back to Feb. 28. The Big Red will host Mount St. Joseph on Tuesday (April 14) at 7:30 p.m. and will return on Friday night (April 17) to host Colorado College at 7:30 p.m. Friday's game versus Colorado College will be broadcasted over the internet through Teamline.
