Medaille Tops Cobleskill to Earn Inaugural NEAC Victory

(Amherst, NY) - The Medaille College men's lacrosse team took to the field for their first conference game ever as SUNY Cobleskill came to town for a noon faceoff at Amherst High School. The game was a bit sloppy, as the teams combined for (94) shots with only (57) coming on goal. Despite the shooting woes Medaille would come out on top with an (11-6) win.

Cobleskill opened the scoring three minutes into play, the Mavs then buried five straight, jumping out to a (5-1) lead after the first quarter. The second quarter would be a dead heat as each team connected for three goals, giving Medaille an (8-4) lead at intermission.

The visitors would find the net early in the third quarter trimming the Mavs lead to three, Medaille would score three straight to end the third quarter with a commanding (11-5) lead. Cobleskill would close out the scoring, notching the only goal in the fourth.

Leading the way for Medaille were a pair of sophomores, attacker, Joe Glieco (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South) who had a game high five points (4 goals, 1 assist) and Jim Luthart (Amherst, NY/Amherst) who also chipped in with four goals.

The visitors were led by Kevin MacNeill (Vestal, NY/Vestal) who finished the day with four markers. In the nets for Medaille was senior Ben Dlugosh (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) who was outstanding once again, finishing with (18) saves. While Cobleskill received (22) stops from Robert McDonald (Amherst, NY/Amherst).

The win moves Medaille to (3-6) overall and (1-0) in NEAC play while Cobleskill falls to (1-8) overall and (1-2) in conference play. The Mavs will host Keuka College on Tuesday (4/14) at 2:00pm on the U.B. North Campus (Kunz Field) for another NEAC matchup.
