Presidents Roll to Victory Over Yellow Jackets

WASHINGTON, Pa. Washington & Jefferson College started the game with 13 consecutive goals during its 17-2 women's lacrosse rout of Waynesburg University on Monday evening at Wiley Stadium. W&J increased its program-best win streak to three games and improved its overall record to 5-6.

The Presidents opened an 11-0 lead at halftime and did not allow a goal for the first 36 minutes of the contest. Sophomore Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) scored three first-half goals for W&J, while freshmen Joanne Chojecki (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier Senior) and Brittney Oake (Bell Mead, N.J./Montgomery) both added two scores.

Oake netted the first two goals of the second half before Maria Shepas finally ended the Waynesburg scoring drought with 24 minutes remaining. W&J went on to score five more goals to run away with the victory.

Schrock finished with five goals and two assists to lead the Presidents. Oake added four scores and one assist, while Chjoecki finished with two goals and two assists.

Senior Laura Peery (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) contributed two goals and one assist, while classmate Valerie Orzechowski (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and sophomore Shannon Wagner (Venetia, Pa./Peters Twp.) rounded out the goal scorers with one each.

Sophomore goalie Amber Kuntz (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) made seven saves for the Presidents, while Amanda Jo Morgan made 16 stops for Waynesburg. Shepas notched both WU goals.

Washington & Jefferson held a 33-9 shot advantage and corralled 16 of 20 draw controls. W&J has already surpassed its win total from 2008's inaugural varsity season.

The Presidents will look for their fourth-straight win on Saturday when traveling to Lancaster Bible for a 2:00 pm match.
