Headrick Leads Oneonta Past Potsdam

SUNY Oneonta senior Dennis Headrick (Kings Park/Kings Park) scored five goals this afternoon to lead the Red Dragons to a 15-8 win against Potsdam in SUNYAC men's lacrosse action. Headrick scored four of his goals in the second half as Oneonta (5-7/1-3) outscored the Potsdam (4-6/1-3) 9-2 to win going away.

Oneonta had a 4-2 lead after one period of play, the final goal coming with 11 seconds to go in the opening period by junior Matt Harvey (Bay Shore/Bay Shore) unassisted on an extra-man opportunity. Harvey registered a pair of goals this afternoon while the Red Dragons made good on six of its 10 extra-man situations in the game.

With just under seven minutes to play in the second period, Oneonta held a comfortable lead at 6-2 before Potsdam charged back with four unanswered goals to tie the game at six apiece at halftime. Junior Ben McCullough (Brampton, Ontario) had a goal and an assist to help lead the charge for the Bears. McCullough finished the day with a pair of goals and two assists to lead Potsdam in scoring.

The defense for Oneonta clamped down on the Potsdam attack in the second half led by senior goalie, Nick Murray (West Babylon/West Babylon), who finished the game with 17 saves.

Oneonta will host Cortland this Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m.
