Alvernia Holds Off Moravian in Shootout

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 16, 2009) - Alvernia University (8-5) snapped a modest three-game losing skid with an 18-16 win over Moravian College (5-8) Thursday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Sovereign Bank Sports Park.

Alvernia freshman Sarah George (West Chester, Pa./West Chester Bayard Rustin) started the game with a pair of goals and sophomore Felicia Sippel (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) followed with three straight in just over a minute's time.

Moravian scored four of the next five goals to pull within two, 6-4, but George's goal with five minutes left on the first half clock put Alvernia up 10-6 at the break.

Alvernia built the second half lead to seven with three straight to start the second half and pushed the lead to eight goals, 15-7, on another of Sippel's eight on the day.

Moravian made it tight scored eight of the next 10 goals, but Alvernia was able to keep the Greyhounds at bay earning the two-goal win.

Alvernia freshman Jenn Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert) made 11 saves in the win.

The Crusaders travel to Manhattanville on Saturday.
