No. 7 Hamilton Outguns Rochester in Liberty League Action

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Kaillie Briscoe '09 scored four goals and assisted on two others to lead nationally ranked No. 7 Hamilton College to a 19-10 win against visiting University of Rochester in a Liberty League women's lacrosse game played at Campus Road Athletic Field on April 17.

Briscoe, who has recorded five or more points in each of the last seven games, leads Hamilton with 27 assists and tops the league with 57 points. Kate Marek '09 added three goals, one assist and three draw controls. Liz Rave '10 chipped in three goals and Sarah Bray '11 had two goals and one assist. Rave and Briscoe are tied for the team lead with 30 goals. Lauren Sokol '12 and Liz Benjamin '09 paced the defense with three caused turnovers apiece. Kate Fowler '10 made all three of her saves in the second half.

Lindsay Dakin '09 scored three goals to bring her season total to 37, and had two assists for Rochester. Dakin entered the game ranked second in the league in goals. Abby Woodward '09 tallied three goals and won a game-high four draw controls. Leslie Dube '09 stopped eight shots.

Hamilton (11-1 overall, 6-0 Liberty) has won nine straight games overall. The Continentals extended their home unbeaten streak to 28 games and have won 26 in a row against league opponents. Hamilton leads the all-time series with the Yellowjackets, 24-5. Rochester (5-7, 1-4) dropped its fourth straight contest.

The Continentals opened the first half with a 5-0 run as Marek scored two of the five goals. Josie Jones '12 made the score 5-0 with her fifth goal with 19:56 left in the half. Dakin put the Yellowjackets on the scoreboard with 8:23 remaining, but Hamilton closed out the half with three straight goals -- two on free-position shots -- for an 8-1 advantage at the break.

Rochester scored four of the first six goals in the second half to cut into its seven-goal deficit. Woodward made the score 10-5 with her first goal of the day with 16:19 left. However, the Continentals put the game away with a 6-1 spurt that covered the next nine minutes. Bray's 18th goal this year gave Hamilton a comfortable 16-6 lead with 7:21 remaining.

The Continentals held a 30-19 advantage in shots and picked up 21 ground balls to 11 for the Yellowjackets. Rochester enjoyed a huge 21-10 edge in draw controls, but committed 26 turnovers.
